[table id=819 /]

Design and Build

Both Asus and Xiaomi have used metal to make the exterior of their respective handsets. This has made them appear much more premium than suggested by their price tags. Dimension-wise, the Redmi Note 4 is a bit taller and wider but slimmer than the Zenfone 3s Max. The duo has decent single handed usage compatibility. Asus deserves a handy applause for keeping maintaining a maximum thickness of 8.6 mm even with the huge 5000mAh battery.

Display

Asus Zenfone 3s Max

The Zenfone 3s Max sports a 5.2-inch HD (1280 x 720) display. On the other hand, Xiaomi has opted for 5.5-inch Full HD (1080 x 1920) screen. Both are IPS LCD panels with 2.5D curvature. With a resultant pixel density of 401 ppi, the Redmi Note 4 has a much sharper display than the 282 ppi totting Zenfone 3s Max. The former also has a larger screen to body ratio than its competitor.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

The 5.5-inch display of the Redmi Note 4 is a more usable size than the 5.2-inch panel of Zenfone. The larger bezels of the latter further cancel out its one handed usage advantage. Nevertheless, both the displays offer excellent viewing angles and colour reproduction.

Hardware, Memory and Software

Coming to hardware, the two smartphones are a bit different. The Redmi Note 4 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset. On the other hand, Asus has used the MediaTek MT6750 SoC. Both are octa-core processors with eight Cortex A53 cores. The Snapdragon 625 rocks a peak clock speed of 2.0 GHz while MediaTek has settled for a lower 1.5 GHz.

The main advantage of Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 is its 14nm construction. This offers much better power efficiency while keeping a stringent check on the thermals than the 28nm Mediatek MT6750 chip. Thus, on the basis of processing power, the Redmi Note 4 wins hands down.

Both the smartphones offer at least 3 GB of RAM and up to 64 GB of on-board storage. The Note 4 even has a 4 GB RAM variant. The handsets also support microSD cards via the hybrid SIM trays.

Speaking of software, the Zenfone 3s Max has a distinct advantage. It runs the latest Android 7.0 Nougat, while Xiaomi still offers Android 6.0 Marshmallow. However, the MIUI 8 of Redmi Note 4 builds in some additional features on top of vanilla Android.

Camera

Both the Zenfone 3s Max and Redmi Note 4 sport 13 MP primary shooters. While these may not be flagship grade, they can shoot decent pictures in the day and satisfactory images during night. Dual tone LED flash is present in both the phones. None of the smartphones can record 4K videos and are restricted to Full HD 1080p. The Redmi Note 4 can additionally take slow motion 720p footages at 120 fps.

Talking about selfie snapper, the Zenfone rocks a 8MP unit, while the Redmi Note 4 has a standard 5 MP front camera.

Battery

This is the area of speciality for both the handsets. The Zenfone 3s Max boasts a large 5000mAh battery which is sufficient for more than a couple of day usage. The Redmi Note 4 has a smaller 4100mAh battery is offers almost equally good power backup, thanks to its highly efficient CPU.

Pricing and Availability

Pricing details of the Asus Zenfone 3s Max are not yet known.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 starts from just Rs. 9999 for the 2 GB / 32 GB model. The 3 GB/ 32 GB and 4 GB / 64 GB versions costs Rs. 10,999 and 12,999 respectively. It is available from Flipkart and Mi.com via weekly flash sales.

Conclusion

Coming to conclusion, it is needless to say that the Redmi Note 4 is a better device than the Zenfone 3s Max. The latter only excels in battery capacity, while the Redmi Note 4 has a better processor and display.
