Design and Build

The Lenovo K6 Power and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 are somewhat similar regarding design language. They both rock metal unibody constructions with identically placed fingerprint scanners. Taking about the dimensions, the Redmi Note 3 is naturally the bigger due to its larger display. With a thickness of 8.7 mm, it is a bit thinner than the K6 Power which measures at 9.3 mm. Xiaomi’s device weighs 164 gm which is about 20 gm heavier than the 145 gm K6 Power.

Thus, it is pretty evident that Lenovo’s smartphone is easier to handle. However, the grander display and the lesser thickness of Redmi Note 3 somewhat cancels out the advantage.

Display

The K6 Power sports a 5-inch Full HD display while the Redmi Note 3 rocks a 5.5-inch Full HD one. Both are IPS LCD panels and come with unspecified screen protection. Speaking of picture quality, each of the displays is quite bright and can be easily used under daylight.

While it is true that display size hugely depends upon personal choices, in present day scenario, 5.5-inch is somewhat a better option than 5-inch.

Performance: Hardware, Memory, and Software

The octa-core Snapdragon 430 powers up the Lenovo K6 Power whereas the hexa-core Snapdragon 650 sits inside the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. The former features eight ARM Cortex A53 cores running at a maximum clock speed of 1.4 GHz each. The latter consists of two Cortex A72 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz each and four Cortex A53 with 1.4 GHz frequency. However, despite having the lesser number of CPUs, the Snapdragon 650 is significantly more powerful than the Snapdragon 430. The single thread performance of the former can even be compared to some high-end flagships.

Coming to graphics, the Adreno 505 GPU of the K6 Power is much inferior to the Adreno 510 GPU of the Redmi Note 3. Speaking of memory, K6 Power sports 3 GB of RAM alongside 32 GB of onboard storage. The Redmi Note 3 has two different variants, one with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB memory, and the other with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage.

The K6 Power runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with some minor modifications, while the Redmi Note 3 is powered by Xiaomi’s MIUI installed on top of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

Performance-wise, we can’t deny that the Redmi Note 3 is miles ahead of Lenovo’s handset.

Camera

Lenovo K6 Power comes with a 13 MP rear camera with Sony IMX 258 lens, while the Redmi Note 3 rocks a 16 MP primary shooter. The former boasts an 8 MP front camera powered by Sony IMX 219 whereas, the latter has a standard 5 MP selfie snapper. Both the smartphones can record Full HD 1080p videos at 30 fps.

On the paper, the camera department of the K6 Power looks exciting. However, we are yet to field test it, so can’t comment on its real life quality. Have an eye for our upcoming review to know more about the optics.

Battery

This is the greatest advantage of both the K6 Power and the Redmi Note 3. They both possess massive 4000mAh batteries which promise exceptional power backup. Lenovo’s additional reverse charging functionality is an icing on the cake. It means that you may use your K6 Power as a portable power bank to charge other electronic equipment.

The smaller display and the lesser processing power suggests that the K6 Power may sport better battery backup. However, it highly depends on the system optimizations.

Pricing and Availability

The K6 Power costs Rs. 9,999 and comes with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of ROM. However, at Rs. 9,999 you will only get the 2 GB / 16 GB variant of the Redmi Note 3. The 3 GB / 32 GB version is priced at Rs. 11,999. So, the K6 Power is a clear winner regarding the price. However, 2 GB RAM is adequate for most users and the phones have a micro SD card slot too.

Coming to availability, the K6 Power will be sold exclusively in Flipkart starting from December 6. The Redmi Note 3 is readily available on different e-commerce websites along with the official Mi.com.

Conclusion

Both the K6 Power and Redmi Note 3 are brilliant smartphones to buy under Rs. 10,000. The most notable thing about them is their outstanding battery life. If you want a larger display, superior processing power, and somewhat better rear camera, you should choose the Redmi Note 3. Otherwise, if you are looking towards more RAM and larger storage, you may opt for the K6 Power or the higher variant of the Redmi Note 3.
