Micromax Canvas Knight A350 VS Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 Comparison Overview

Micromax unveiled its true octa core smartphone, Canvas Knight A350, yesterday with a competitive price tag of Rs. 19,999. Samsung is also offering the popular Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 in the same price range with less hardware glitter, but if you are inclined to go for the Global brand, let’s take a look at head to head specs comparison for both devices.

Display and Processor

Canvas knight definitely scores high in this department, Thanks to the 5 inch full HD 1080p IPS LCD display from Sharp. The Galaxy Grand 2 on the other hand comes with a 720p TFT LCD display, 5.25 inches in size. Many would argue that the difference is not easily discernible between the full HD and HD display.

We didn’t find anything wrong with the Galaxy Grand 2 display, but if Canvas Knight full HD panel is anything close to that which we saw in Canvas Turbo, it will be a clear winner.

The processor used in Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is 1.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 400 chipset from Qualcomm (similar to Moto G), backed by Adreno 305 GPU and 1.5 GB RAM. Although the processor is sufficient for basic usage and UI transitions were mostly lag free, it stands no ground in front of Micromax Canvas Knight A350 with 2 GHz true Octa core MT6592T chipset backed by 2 GB of DDR2 RAM. The performance will be significantly better while using gaming apps.

Camera and Internal Storage

The Galaxy Grand 2 rear camera has an 8 MP sensor and is capable of full HD 1080p video recording. The camera provides with wonderful detailed shots in full light conditions and above average performance in low light conditions.

The Canvas Knight on the other hand has a 16 MP camera with OmniVision BSI 2 sensor and Largan M8 lens. The pixel size of 1.34 micrometer is also larger than average camera’s which implies better low light performance. The camera is definitely superior on paper.

Canvas Knight will offer you 32 GB of on board storage out of which 26.6 GB will be available at users end. Galaxy Grand 2 is no slouch either. It offers you 8 GB of internal storage with option for addition 64 GB SD card storage. For common user both storage capacities will suffice. Rest can pick their favorite according to usage pattern.

Battery and Operating system

The battery capacity is a big limitation on Canvas Knight. The 2350 mAh battery will provide you with 7.5 hours of talk time and 175 hours of standby time (Most probably on 2G), which is not much on a full HD display smartphone. Whenever you indulge in more than moderate usage, you will have to keep a charger of battery bank handy.

The Galaxy Grand 2 on the other hand will easily last for more than one day of moderate usage. The 2600 mAh battery will be less taxed by respective display and will easily last for double of Canvas Knight with 17 hours of talk time on 3G and 375 hours of Talk time on 3G.

On the software front, Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 features newer Android 4.3 jelly bean with touch wiz on top. The Canvas Knight comes with Android 4.2 jelly bean which is relatively older but won’t be a deal breaker.

Conclusion

Micromax Canvas Knight with glass panel at the back packs powerful hardware in its slim attractive shell. The beautiful display and powerful processor is however limited by average non removable battery. Galaxy Grand 2 on the other hand lacks OTG support or any other fancy hardware but provides better battery backup. The Galaxy Grand 2 with faux leather back will have better prospects of selling in Indian market similar to its predecessor Galaxy Grand Duos.
