Micromax Unite 2 VS Lava Iris 406Q Comparison Overview

Lately, the entry-level smartphone space in India is witnessing a plethora of launches that provide great value for money. One of the recent launches includes Motorola’s Moto E that was rumored and speculated a lot. To compete with this phone released for Rs 6,999, the India based vendors appear to have decided to give it a tough competition with their offerings.

In order to compete with the global vendor, leading native manufacturer Micromax has silently come up with a smartphone on Thursday carrying the same price tag of Rs 6,999. The talk is about the newly announced Micromax Unite 2 that not only fights with Moto E, but a handful of smartphones in the same price bracket and with similar specs. One such competitor to the Micromax phone is Lava Iris 406Q.

Display and Processor

The Micromax Unite 2 features a 4.7 inch Bright Graph IPS display that boasts of a WVGA resolution of 480×800 pixels that in turn translates to a pixel density 199 pixels per inch. On the other hand, the Lava Iris 406Q flaunts a smaller 4 inch display with the same WVGA resolution of 480×800 pixels. Micromax  Unite 2 will be more appealing to those looking for a larger display size without much compromise in experience.

Coming to the processing power segment, the Micromax Unite 2 is stuffed with a quad-core 1.3 GHz processor presumably, MediaTek MT6582 SoC paired with Mali 400 GPU. In comparison, the Lava offering is fitted with a quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor ticking at 1.2 GHz and it is coupled with Adreno 302 graphics unit to handle the graphic rich games. Also, both the phones come with 1 GB of RAM that can handle smooth multi-tasking without any clutter.

Camera and Internal Storage

In the photography department, both the smartphones are average performers as they come with 5 MP primary snappers at the back. However, the one in the Micromax Unite 2 has auto focus and LED flash while its opponent LED flash, Zero Shutter Lag (ZSL) and HDR shooting modes. When it comes to the front-facer, the Lava Iris 406Q bows down a bit with a basic VGA front-facing snapper, whereas the 2 MP sensor in the Micromax phone is capable of capturing good selfies and paving way for quality video calls.

In addition, the Micromax offering wins this segment with additional features such as panorama, live photo mode and beauty mode features that will deliver an all new experience to the entry-level smartphone users.

Both the devices has 4 GB of internal storage space that is of course too low for those users who tend to install a lot of applications and games. But, to overcome this downside the handsets come with a micro SD card slot that allows them to expand their storage capacity up to 32 GB.

Battery and Features

Micromax Unite 2 features a 2,000 mAh battery, but the backup delivered by the same is not disclosed by the vendor.  On the other hand, the Lava Iris 406Q is fueled by a 1,700 mAh battery which is one step below Micromax Unite 2.

While the Lava Iris 406Q is based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS, the Micromax Unite 2 is the first smartphone from the vendor to be fueled with Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. Lava assured that the handset can be upgraded to Android 4.4.2 KitKat and Micromax has also promised to roll out future updates to its latest offering via FOTA. Micromax Unite 2 already has KitKat and thus is more appealing. 

When it comes to features, the Lava phone has Battery Guru app that combines the usage patterns to save the battery life. Also, there is Audio Plus to deliver surround sound, wider bass and 3D audio while wearing headphones. The Micromax handset is the first phone to feature Reverie Multilingual pack that lets users to communicate easily in 20 regional languages and English.

Price and Conclusion

Looking at the price tags, both the devices are launched for the same price of Rs 6,999 an they also resemble each other in many segments. The main difference is in the display of these devices and the choice will depend on individual taste. Micromax opts for a more popular 4.7 inch display size and there are are other enhancements in it such as the camera with some unique features for an entry-level phone and latest KitKat OS out-of-the-box.
