Ads by Google

XOLO recently launched its 5 inch Display device, XOLO Q1000S (Quick Review) with Turbo MediaTek processor, a feature which we expected Micromax to bring first in India with its much hyped Micromax Canvas 4 (Full Review). In both of these smartphones, the built quality and body design has been given due consideration, which makes for an important factor for a smartphone to stand aside of the budget Quad core device which Crowds the 10 k to 20 k range in India. Let’s compare these devices in order to determine which one is better.

Display and processor

Both of these devices come with a similar IPS LCD 5 inch display with a 720p HD resolution giving you a pixel density of 294 ppi. This is a fine clarity vibrant display and the IPS LCD will ensure good Viewing angles. Micromax Canvas 4, however, gives Gorilla glass protection on the display which is of great utility for most people. This gives Canvas 4 an edge over XOLO Q1000S.

Canvas 4 is powered by MediaTek MT6589 Processor ubiquitous in the Canvas Series phones above 10,000 INR. This Quad core processor is clocked at a frequency of 1.2 GHz and comes with PowerVR SGX544 GPU clocked at a frequency of 286 Mhz.

The New XOLO Q1000S is powered by a better MT6589T turbo processor which is clocked at a higher frequency of 1.5 GHz and a better GPU frequency of 357 MHz. Thus this processor with perform better, although the difference will be visible only during Intensive Gaming and a similar RAM capacity of 1GB in both the devises will make the difference less noticeable.

Camera and Memory

Both Smartphones have comparable Camera features. Both smartphones feature a 13 MP primary camera with features like Geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, HDR, panorama. Micromax Canvas 4 has a unique Vertical Panorama feature where as XOLO Q1000S comes with a effective Burst mode capable of capturing 99 pics. Both devices have a front camera of 5 MP, However XOLO has provided a BSI sensor (Back illuminated sensor for better quality and effective Zooming) with its front camera.

Canvas 4 provides with 16 MB internal storage which can be further extend to 32 GB using a microSD card. XOLO Q1000S unfortunately doesn’t come with extendable storage. The internal storage is Fixed at 16 GB which will be sufficient for most people, but not everyone.

Battery and other features

XOLO Q1000S is the clear winner with a greater margin as far as battery specs go. XOLO Q1000S Comes with a 2500 mAh Battery which will provide you with talk time of 22.5 hrs(2G) and standby time of around 327 hours. Micromax Canvas 4 comes with a battery capacity of 2000 mAh which gives you 8 hrs of talk time and 220 hrs of standby time.

XOLO Q1000S is quite sleek with 6.98 mm body thickness. Micromax Canvas 4 which comes with Aluminum Finished Edges looks quite premium and neat. Both these phones have good built quality and preferences will vary according to individual taste. Micromax Canvas 4 also comes with software features like “Blow air or shake to Unlock”, Video pausing and Video Pining and various other gesture controls

  1. Good review. I am somehow not a big fan of gimmicky features like “Blow Air” or “Shake to Refresh”, so I’m favourable towards XOLO Q1000S. Straight forward, sexy and packed with awesome features.

  2. For me too like Ram, XOLO wins, even though more expensive. Mostly because my friends and family have owned XOLO phones in the past and they’ve had good things to say about it. The battery lasts more than a day with moderate to heavy usage. And videos look amazing on the HD screen.

  3. i was waiting for its launch. but i let me down by not giving expandable memory. otherwise i was ready to buy this phone. no my search will agin start for a new phone.

  4. Is there any app/option to add Blow Air/Shake Unlock option in Xolo?

    • the app which makes it possible on android phone is from a company called foneplay you can easily search install that apps as it might work, if not then there are many apps on the google market place which lets you do this.

  5. Wow, Xolo Q1000S looks really nice. And it’s got great features too. Definitely concidering to buy this.

  6. No one needs more than 16GB on a portable device. Sounds like a great phone to me. And the hypocrisy of the situation is when people won’t say a word about the price of any other “known brand” with lesser features.

  7. Really impressed with Xolo. Amazing looks and packed with great features.

  8. Would prefer this over Micromax, anyday. Look at all these damn specs!

  9. Have been using XOLO phones since a year. Have the Q800 and now the Q1000S. Amazing brand, with great phones. Beats Samsung.

  10. Looks hell lot better then galaxy grand quad core 1.5GHz vs dual core 1.2GHz
    13MP vs 8MP ,
    5MP front vs 2MP front
and stock experience vs touch wiz
    720P screen vs 480P screen
    16GB vs 8GB

  11. Beautiful looking phone with a great screen size, screen resolution and superior quality of camera. Definitely buying.

  12. wow, people are fighting over who gets to praise the phone first?

  14. Hello Abhishek,
Can i please suggest me,if i should go for xolo q1000s or not.
what about the camera quality of the cell ?

    • We havent tested the xolo Q1000s so cant tell you much about it, but from the specs it looks great and we will let you know more in detailed full review in netx 1-2 weeks.

  15. Thanks abhishek,
    ordered xolo q 1000s @ 15k
i think thats the best price.
waiting for the gadget to reach me :)

    • If you have ordered it then consider it the best price, I would say – stop looking for pages where its cheaper as you might feel cheated. :)

  16. A comment by Shekar Nair on Flipkart says-

    Buy Xolo = Regret Everyday
The XOLO Q1000S technical specifications and slim looking metallic body is all very attractive. But, buying this phone is like gambling where you are sure to lose and cry.

I fell prey to this so-called mid-range phone but I realized my mistake of not doing a thorough review beforehand. I thought it was my bad luck until I read a review by a popular phone reviewing portal. According to them, the power button came off soon after unboxing. Can you imagine that ? They had to use their finger nail to switch on-off the mobile. Secondly, removing the sim is like fighting with Goliath. Putting it in is easy.

Anyway, I emailed the customer support team of Xolo for enquiry regarding my problem. (Their email is provided in their website). I also contacted their PR representative for clarification. Surprisingly, there was no reply from both sides. So, you can imagine their after sales service. They sell you any cheap thing and charge you high. Whats more they dont have proper service centers.

If you want more negatives about this phone, then read this:

The Xolo Q1000S comes with NON-removable battery. This means the phone is practically disposable after the battery life has ended. Secondly, there is no option to add MicroSD Card. You have to be satisfied with internal memory. Both the aspects are not highlighted in the technical specifications. You will only find out about this if you read online reviews and compare phones.

I wish Flipkart would remove such cheap, worthless phones from their website to avoid bad reputation.

Guys, make no mistake !!! There are hundreds of phones out there which are of good quality. Unfortunately this is one bad egg in the basket.

Please do a thorough review regarding this phone if you are adamant. Spending Rs. 16000 is not a joke.

  17. I like xolo q1000s for its look, pleas& spec. please clarify what happens if the non removable battery dies after year…?

  18. Help me. . Xolo A600 or mmx a74. . . Xolo got better camera and more battery, rest are same nearly. Now. . . Should i order xolo ? I want to use at least 1.5 yr this phone. . .and this is my first android phone. . .and m very very confused! My budget is 7.5 k. . . Any experience user help will be much much better. Thanks.

    • Both of these devices will be same in terms of durability, if camera matters to you more then go for xolo counterpart.

  19. I want to buy new mobile phone (android) and my budget is about rs. 10,000
