Things We Like And Dislike About The Lenovo P2

After the K6 Note and K6 Power, Lenovo has launched another smartphone named as Lenovo P2. It is the successor to the Lenovo P1 that was launched last year. The highlight of the phone is the big 5100 mAh battery. Other than that, it has a metal unibody design, 5.5 inch full HD Super AMOLED display and a Snapdragon 625 processor.

Lenovo P2 is launched in two variants, one with 3 GB RAM and the other with 4 GB RAM. Both the variants come 32 GB internal storage. They will be available exclusively on Flipkart from today midnight. It is priced at Rs. 16,999 and Rs. 17,999 respectively for the two variants. Let us now take a look at the things we like and dislike about the Lenovo P2.

Lenovo P2 – Things We Like

Battery

As mentioned earlier, Lenovo P2 comes with a 5100 mAh Li-Ion battery that is the highlight of the phone. The battery is non-removable and it supports fast charging. The charger in the box can give up to 24 watt current for quick charging. The phone also supports USB On-The-Go, which means you can use the phone as a power bank to charge other devices. In addition to all that the phone also comes with a power saver mode for more optimisation.

Display

Lenovo P2 sports a 5.5 inches Super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (FHD) and a pixel density of 401 ppi. The display has 100% NTSC color gamut and a 2.5D curved glass on the top.

Super AMOLED display in Lenovo P2 is definitely better than the common IPS LCD display. The Full HD resolution, good pixel density and 2.5D curved glass adds on to a very good display quality.

Build and design

Lenovo P2 has a metal unibody design with plastic at the top and bottom. The phone features a 5.5 inch display with 2.5D glass on the top. It’s dimensions are 153 x 76 x 8.3 mm and it weighs around 177 grams, which is not that heavy given a 5.5 inch display and 5100 mAh battery. The phone is also quite slim even with such a massive battery inside. The fingerprint scanner is inbuilt in the home button on the front.

Design and build quality is good in this price range.

Hardware

It is powered by a 2.0 GHz octa core processor with Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625 chipset that comes with a 14 nm architecture and Adreno 506 GPU. Phones like Moto Z Play and Asus Zenfone 3 come with the same chipset, so performance will not be an issue with the Lenovo P2, at least on paper. Moreover, it comes with the Lenovo’s proprietary TheaterMax technology which can give you a great virtual reality experience. In addition to that it has a unique one-key power saver button on its side.

Lenovo P2 – Things We Don’t Like

Hybrid SIM slot

Lenovo P2 comes in two variants, one with 3 GB RAM and the other with 4 GB RAM. While the storage in both the variants is the same i.e 32 GB which is expandable up to 256 GB with a microSD card. But the phone has a hybrid slot which means that you can either use a microSD card or SIM 2. Although 32 GB is enough for normal usage, still this will be a big problem for users who want more storage and 2 SIM cards at the same time.

Average Camera

It is equipped with a 13 MP primary with  phase detection autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash and f/2.0 aperture. On the front it has a 5 MP camera with f/2.2 aperture. The camera is not up to the mark at this price. Phones like Moto G4 Plus comes with a better camera at a low price.

Conclusion

To conclude, Lenovo P2 has a massive 5100 mAh battery, good build, very nice display, good processor, average camera and a fingerprint sensor. But it does not have a dedicated microSD slot, so that is a big disadvantage. You should definitely consider this phone if you want a big battery. Whereas if your priority is the camera or performance, then phones like Moto G4 Plus and Lenovo Z2 Plus are better.
