Build Quality, Design and Form Factor

The build quality of Gionee G2 Gpad is much better than G1 Gpad as it has got more rounded edges, comparing the back cover you have glossy finish on the back side, it looks quite solid in hands as compared to the previous version. The quality of the flip cover supplied in the package is much better and this time it’s a snap on flip cover so you don’t have to remove the back cover to apply the flip cover. The design is better with more rounded edges and better quality of plastic which makes it feel like a nice device while you hold on in your hands. The form factor is also good but due to big size but most of the users get used to it once you start using the device.

Display, Memory and Battery Backup

It has a IPS LCD display with qHD resolution which looks little bit soft if you look at from a closer distance, but from a normal distance while using the phone you wont see any pixels and the display is better than the other WVGA resolution devices which falls in the same price segment both in colors, crispness and viewing angles. The inbuilt memory you get is 4Gb out of which around 1.74 Gb is available but you also get a 16 GB MicroSD card free pre installed on the device and you cane install apps on the SD card and use it as internal storage and you can also move apps from the phone memory to microSD card. The battery backup we got during our review was pretty good as phone lasted more than 1 day most of the time and with dual sim the battery backup gets lesser than one day but still it lasted till evening.

Software UI

The UI which we see on the device out of the box was a custom version which is not really liked by most of the users out there as it is little bit sluggish in transitions some times if not all but there is preinstalled app on the phone which is called Theme Skin which allows you to revert to the stock android theme so that all those users who don’t like the custom UI layer can revert back.

Benchmarks and Gaming

Benchmark Scores for Canvas 3D

  • Quadrant Standard Edition: 3830
  • Antutu Benchmark: 9882
  • Nenamark2: 49.0 fps.
  • Multi Touch: 5 point.

We tried playing couple of casual games like Temple Run Oz, Subway Surfer and Angry bird and these games ran fine without any noticeable graphic lag and some other graphic games like Front Line commando, Dead Trigger and Need For Speed Most wanted also ran with little lag some times which is still ok for a budget device like this, you can watch our gaming and benchmark videos for the same.

Sound, Video and Navigation

Sound quality through the ear phones which comes with in the package of Gionee G2 Gpad is quite good if not perfect, the bass levels are low but again they are the standard headphones which means you can buy 3rd party earphones which may give you better sound quality, loudness of the loudspeaker is good enough for watching videos and other multimedia content. This device also supports HD video playback both at 720p and 1080p and navigation also works on the device but with use of assisted GPS and make sure to enable assisted GPS on your device before you can use it for navigation.

Conclusion and Price

Gionee G2 Gpad is a nice handset at an MRP of Rs. 13,990 INR and it is available at a cheaper price, it comes with some very nice accessories like flip cover with nice build quality has a 5.3 inch qHD display with quite wide viewing angles and it does offers the specs you might be looking at like Quad Core processor and 1 GB of RAM and has a pretty nice premium like build quality, the only problem we see with this device form factor with glossy finish back cover it becomes quite difficult to hold it one hand use but this can be solved by using the flip cover which is supplied with it which gives a leather like look to the device both from the front side and back side.
