Build Quality, Design and Form Factor

The build quality of Nokia asha 501 is commendable at the price it comes, the complete phone is covered by a shell which is replicable, has matte finish and made up of nice quality of plastic. It can resist good number of falls as we experienced the same during our review. It has a candy bar design with slightly rounded edges which makes it easy to hold in hands on and it feels right size phone with weight less than 100 grams and its much more pocket friendly phone than any other in the market. As far as thickness is concerned it is not the very thin phone with a thickness around 12mm but light weight and candy bar size overcome its thickness as it does not feel bulky in hands.

Display, Memory and Battery Backup

The display is TFT capacitive 3 inch with 133 pixels which make the text easily readable on this screen size, the color are good but the contrast could have been better but still its not that bad. The in built memory is 128 MB out of which after all the preinstalled apps and data you get around 64mb which is fairly good to install more apps from the nokia store and again as these apps are not heavy in size they wont take much space on the device. The battery backup of this phone is really impressive it gave more than 2 days of  backup when we used it as primary phone and on standby it can last much much longer.

Software and Performance

The software running on the device is Nokia Asha 501 is nokia propriety os which has been nicely designed to make it user friendly, it has nokia fast lane which acts like recent pane of all apps you used on phone and also actions you did. The phone was running fine in terms of UI interaction and speed even when we ran different applications one after the other, we did UI to become slow till time time you launch too many apps.  The phone also support many Indic languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telgu etc you can easily type in most of the well known indian languages on the keyboard.

Gaming and Entertainment

There was couple of games which came preinstalled Asphalt 6 and you can also get 40 free EA games and install them on the device but again one should not expect much on the gaming front on this phone. The video playback looks good for most of the videos because of the small screen size.

Camera Performance

The back camera is 3.15 fixed focus can take some good photos in daylight with good colors but don’t expect much details. There is no front camera on the device, below are some camera samples.

Sound and Navigation

It has a loud speaker at the back side which is hidden by the shell which hold the complete phone but still loud speaker is loud enough if not too loud comparing other phones in the same price segment. You can also use navigation on Nokia asha 501 with the help of here maps although it does not have magnetic field sensor but you can use navigation on this phone with the help of maps using internet connection with the help of assisted GPS through network triangulation.

Conclusion, Price and Color Options

Nokia Asha 501 is a nice choice for a price of around Rs. 5000 Approx with some decent color options like Black, White, Yellow, RED and Cyan. It is suitable for those who would like the phone to be smart but on the other hand simple to use. The form factor and the build quality you get at this price point is the best we have seen till now, it’s a simple and easy to use phone with smart capabilities.
