Build Quality, Design and Form Factor

The build quality of Spice coolpad Mi-515 is a pretty good as per the price at which it comes, although it has plastic on the back side and glass on the front but you can compare it with some samsung phones and this one as well can survive couple of drops and falls, although the glossy back cover will get the scratches will easily get the finger prints over time. The design is the phone is good with rounded back cover which does give you a nice grip when you hold the device in one hand. The form factor of the phone is quite comparable to the any other 5 inch display android phone, it weigh around 161 grams which is fairly light and does not feel too big in hand and one handed usage of the device is good if not the best.

Display, Memory and Battery Backup

The display is something which we did not liked much about the device, it has IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen which gives it better wide viewing angles but the resolution is on the lower side at 540 x 960 qHD display with ~220 pixels per inch which makes the text slightly pixelated some times. The internal memory is 4Gb out of which around 1.77Gb is user available but you have the memory card expansion slot which can accept upto 32Gb of max memory card, you can also select memory card as the default write disk which in turn will help you save more memory on the device. The battery backup is good enough for one day usage and it has 2000 mAh battery which we normally see on android phones above Rs. 10,000 which is again a big plus.

Software, Benchmarks and Gaming

The software UI is stock android and it has some apps designed by spice which will redirect you’re the spice wap website which has some entertainment content, it has file manager, music player and extra video player and other essential apps as well. The gaming performance of the device is good with PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU which provides a quite good gaming performance if not the best, we played Frontline Commando D Day and the graphics were good however there was slight lag but overall experience and touch screen response was good when we played the game.

Benchmark Scores

  • Quadrant Standard Edition: 3833
  • Antutu Benchmark: 13106
  • Nenamark2: 45.4
  • Multi Touch:  5 point

Camera Performance

The rear camera is 5 MP with autofocus but the pictures taken from this device are not too good in terms of details but in terms of colors they are better, the daylight performance of the camera is better but in low light photos will have much more noise but the colors will still be better. The front camera is VGA which is not good for capturing self portrait shots but the video chat quality is good unless you shake the device while doing a video call, you also get the option of making a video call directly on the phone dialer.

Sound, Video and Navigation

The sound which comes out from the loud speaker is loud enough, but because of the placement of the loud speaker is at the back side so it might get blocked at times. The device can play HD videos at 720p without any audio or video lag but not all 1080p videos are playable in the default video player on this device, you will need to install third party video players and enable hardware decoding to play 1080p videos on this device. The device can be used for Navigation as well with the help of assisted GPS but make sure to enable the same under location settings.

Spice Coolpad Mi-515 Full In Depth Review + Unboxing [Video]

Conclusion and Price

Spice coolpad Mi-515 is a great value for money device at a price of around Rs. 9,499 approx at which it is available as if now. It comes with 1.2 Ghz Quad core processor, 1 GB of RAM and with decent gaming performance but some downsides include 5 MP camera and slightly lower resolution display which are because it’s a lower priced device but in terms of hardware and performance it beats many 10,000 price range phones from other manufacturer and the support is from spice mobiles which is going to be better than other local players in the market.
