Gionee has become a popular name in India, in a very short time. A big credit for this reputation goes to its popular Elife series including Gionee Elife E3 (Quick Review) and Elife E5 (Full Review). Gionee Elife E6 is the new flagship phone of this series and of Gionee as well. It was launched in China earlier this year and has now been launched in India at Rs. 22,999. This phone comes with a 5 inch Full HD display with IPS OGS+ touch screen. This will amount to pixel density of 441 ppi which we often see in high end flagship smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S4. The screen has a very narrow bezel of only 2.54 mm around it which makes it look bigger. One Glass Solution (OGS) technology will give you a display with no air gap and less scattering resulting in good outdoor visibility and sensitive touch with enhanced brightness.
If Gionee would have succeeded in making this phone available even a few weeks back it would have been a great Win for Gionee as back then, phones powered by 1.5 GHz Quad core MT6589T processor were still a rare sight. Now Gionee will compete with phones like Intex Aqua i7 and Smart NaMo Saffron 1 for market share. The RAM capacity in this device is 2 GB which will provide for smooth UI transitions and multi tasking. The internal memory is 32 GB which cannot be extended
The Elife E6 comes with a 13 MP rear camera with BSI sensor which will give you better low light performance and effective zooming. LED flash is also provided to Aid low light photography.The front 5MP camera has also been enhanced from Elife E5 has it comes with a 28mm wide angle lens. Both of these cameras are capable of full HD 1080p video recording.
On the software front it employs Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean based Amigo Operating System. Which mainly consist of 4 different experience, Phone, Desktop, Gamming and Care (living assistant). The phone is only 7.7 mm thick and weighs a moderate 128 grams.
The battery capacity is nothing to boost about at 2020 mAh and will be taxed heavily by Full HD display and quad core processor. The Smart NaMo Saffron 1 offers a better 3150 mAh battery. Unfortunately the battery is non removable. It remains to be seen how much backup can be squeezed from this battery as it depends to a great extent on software optimization as well. Connectivity features include WiFi, GPRS, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. This phone will also come with an intelligent voice feature which will work even without an internet connection.
Gionee like always has tried to provide with best features available at a particular price segment along with admirable built quality. Have they succeeded again in this endeavor? To a large extent, Yes. The competition is fiercer than ever and even a little glitch might not be forgiven. Gionee Elife E6 is available for purchase from Snapdeal for Rs. 22,165.
