Gionee Launches Marathon M6, Marathon M6 Plus With Data Encryption Chips

Chinese smartphone maker Gionee today launched the Marathon M6 and Marathon M6 Plus at an event in Beijing, China. Like other marathon devices, the M6 and M6 Plus are powered by huge batteries. What sets them apart is the addition of integrated security measures.

They come with a dedicated encryption chip to protect user’s data. Both the M6 and M6 Plus come with Dual SIM support. They run on the same OS and are powered by the same processor. They are quite similar in terms of hardware. The main difference is in the screen and battery size. Another good feature of the devices is that they come with a 9V/2A dual-charge chip. Users charge other devices using the Gionee M6 or M6 Plus.

The Gionee M6 runs on Amigo OS 3.2 based on Android Marshmallow 6.0. The device features a 5.5 inch Full HD AMOLED (1920× 1080 pixels) 2.5D curved glass display.

The device is powered by an Octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 MT6755 processor with Mali T860MP2 GPU. The device comes with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB / 128 GB of internal storage which can be further expanded using microSD card.

The device features a 13 MP Sony IMX258 sensor on the front with PDAF, f/2.0 aperture, LED flash and 5P Lens. On the front, it comes with a 8 MP Omnivision OV8856 sensor with f/2.2 aperture.

The device is powered by a 5000mAh battery with support for fast charging. Connectivity options on the device include 4G LTE with VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac/a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS.

The encryption chip on the device works with finger print sensor to protect user’s data. It will protect user’s call records, photos, documents among other things. The international variant of the device will not come with an encryption chip.

Gionee M6 Pricing and Availability

The Gionee M6 will be available in Gold and Latte Gold colors. The 64 GB variant has been priced at 2699 yuan and the 128 GB variant has been priced at 2899 yuan. It will go on sale in China from August 6.

The Gionee M6 Plus also runs on Amigo OS 3.2 based on Android Marshmallow 6.0. It features a 6.0 inch Full HD AMOLED(1920× 1080 pixels) 2.5D curved glass display.

The M6 Plus is powered by an Octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 MT6755 processor with Mali T860MP2 GPU. The device comes with 4 GB of RAM and 64 / 128 GB of internal storage. The internal storage on the device can be expanded using microSD card.

Coming to the camera department, the Gionee M6 Plus features a 16 MP primary camera with PDAF and dual tone LED Flash. On the front, the device features an 8 MP Omnivision OV8856 sensor with f/2.2 aperture. The device comes with an LED flash on the front.

The M6 Plus comes with a bigger, 6020mAh battery with fast charging. Connectivity options on the device include 4G LTE with VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac/a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS.

Gionee M6 Plus Pricing and Availability

The Gionee M6 Plus will go on sale in China from August 13. The 64 GB variant will be priced at 2999 yuan while the 128 GB variant will priced at 3199 yuan. There is no information about the global availability of the device.
