HTC Desire 816 launched with 5.5-inch display

HTC showcased a device which seems to fall in a completely new niche; the flagship mid-range segment. We’re talking about the HTC Desire 816, a smartphone that comes with a mildly powerful processor along with a generously large screen and decent imaging hardware.

The device features the same dual front speakers that come on the acclaimed HTC One and One Max. The Desire 816 measures 156.6 x 78.7 x 7.99mm and weighs in at about 165 grams, which is about right for a device as large as the Desire 816. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400, the quad-core processor with a 1.6GHz frequency.

With an HD resolution of 1280 x 720p through the 5.5-inch display, the Desire 816 clocks a decent pixel density of 267ppi. Other specs of the device include 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of on-board storage and a microSD slot for further expansion.

Photography and video on the Desire 816 are handled by a 13MP rear shooter along with a 5MP front-facer. HTC clearly has paid heed to the rising demand for better ‘selfie’ cameras.

The device will run HTC’s Sense 5.5 out of the box, powered by a 2600mAh battery which should hold good for a day’s usage. HTC pulled off a new trick of sorts with the colour variants though; the Desire 816 will come in black, white, orange, mild green, dark blue and grey colour variants when the device hits shelves later this year.
