Apple has always been known for the path breaking devices it brings to the market, and its iPhone has ruled as one such device since quite some time. Smartphone display sizes are increasing with passage of time and Apple is starting to struggle a bit because the screen size of the iPhone is way smaller than that of a flagships from Android competitors.
Apple is now readying itself up to take on the competition head on by launching the iPhone in bigger screen sizes. And it is not just the smartphone segment it is going to target, but also the phablet segment. As per the latest reports, the company is planning to launch two versions of the iPhone with resolutions higher than those of the current iPhones. The next couple of iPhones are expected to ship starting in September.
Talking about the two variants of the iPhone, one of them will feature a 4.7 inch screen while the other one will feature a 5.5 inch screen. Fingerprint sensors and chips for liquid-crystal drivers for the next generation iPhones are said to have gone into production. Sharp, Japan Display, LG Display and other suppliers will begin mass production of the LCD display panels in the second quarter beginning April this year.
After the devices go into production, they’ll be launched in September, giving the previous devices an year’s life cycle. When Apple announced the iPhone 5C alongside iPhone 5S last year, it was trying to cater to two different segments. But it was meant squarely to promote the iPhone 5S. With the launch of two iPhones with bigger screen sizes, not only will Apple be able to lock horns with the flagships from competitors (read Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and Xperia Z2) but also the phablet flagships (read Note 3, LG G Pro 2 and Xperia Z Ultra).
They will run on the next iteration of iOS when they get launched in its 8th generation. Both the devices might not be launched at the same time but will hit the launchpad for sure this year. Let us know which all colours you would like to see in the next generation of iPhones.
