Lenovo K5 Note Physical Overview

The Lenovo K5 Note is the first phone in this series to feature an all-metal body. Lenovo had used plastic for the K Note series until now, but users get a fairly big design upgrade with the K5 Note.

The design may look a little similar to some other phones on the market, but there aren’t many ways in which you can place the camera sensor and the fingerprint sensor without impacting ease of access. That aside, the design is quite good and the all-metal build gives the K5 Note a premium look. However, due to the use of metal, it is a little slippery compared to the K4 Note.

The front of the phone has the 5.5 inch display. Just above the display, you will find the ear piece with the front camera and the ambient light sensor to the left of the ear piece.

On the bottom, you will find the three capacitive touch buttons for navigation. Lenovo has tweaked the Home button design slightly and the buttons themselves are arranged in the reverse order compared to stock Android.

The Volume rocker and power buttons are placed on the right side. The dual SIM card slot has been placed on the left side of the phone.

The back of the phone features the Camera sensor, dual LED flash and the fingerprint sensor. The Camera sensor hump could be a small design issue for some users, but it looks good otherwise.

Display Overview

The Lenovo K5 Note comes with a 5.5 inch LTPS IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. You get a pixel density of ~401 PPI which is dense enough even in 2016. In our time we spent with the device at the event, we noticed that the display is bright enough and colour reproduction is fairly accurate. It is worth noting that the K5 Note does not come with a Gorilla Glass.

Camera Overview

The Lenovo K5 Note comes with a 13 MP camera on the back, with an aperture of f/2.2 and Phase Detection Autofocus. To assist the phone in low light, Lenovo has placed dual tone dual LED flash just below the camera sensor. You can record videos up to 1080p at 30 frames per second.

On the front, you get an 8 MP camera for video calling and selfies.

Price and Availability

The Lenovo K5 Note is priced at Rs. 11,999. There are two versions of the phone available – the 3 GB RAM version at Rs. 11,999 and the 4 GB RAM version at Rs. 13,499. The phone will be available on Flipkart exclusively.

As part of its Launch Day Offers from 3rd August 23:59 to 4th August 23:59, Lenovo is offering the following at discounted prices:

  • VR Bundle (Theatermax Controller + ANTVR Headset) at Rs. 999
  • Gaming Bundle (Amkette Gamepad 2 + ANTVR Headset) at Rs. 1,999

Other offers will also be available, including some exchange offers as well.

Conclusion

The Lenovo K5 Note is a very good device in the sub-15k price range. With companies launching some extremely good value for money devices in the 10-15,000 price range, Lenovo needed something like the K5 Note to remain competitive. The K5 Note covers almost all the bases – Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Dual SIM 4G LTE, 3-4 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage and microSD card support. The Fingerprint sensor and 3500 mAh battery round up the specs of the phone rather well.
