iBall Andi 5h Quadro Quick Review, Price And Comparison

Ads by Google

After seeing an array of releases from Chinese manufacturers like Gionee and ZTE, domestic manufacturers are back with a bang. Here we talk about the iBall Andi 5h Quaro – the phone was launched yesterday, and at 11,999 INR the phone seems to be one among the numerous devices from domestic manufacturers offering a good value for money. The phone packs a powerful quad core processor and 1GB of RAM. In true ‘mediatek’ spirit, the phone packs 4GB of ROM.

iball andi 5h

Let us go ahead and look into the specifics of the device.

Camera And Internal Storage

The phone packs an impressive 12MP unit at the rear, which is seen as above average for this price range. Most manufacturers tend to include only 8MP units for a similar price, and phones with 12/13MP cameras cost substantially more. On the front, the iBall Andi 5h Quadro features a 2MP unit which is a regular feature on budget devices.

As mentioned previously, the phone comes with a rather disappointing 4GB of ROM. It has been quite a while since buyers as well as critics have been complaining of low user-available storage, however most manufacturers seem to pay no heed to this. We would definitely like to see 8 or 16GB of storage on these devices.

The phone features a microSD slot for expansion, however. The storage can be extended by up to 32GB.

Processor And Battery

The phone comes with a powerful MT6589 processor from Mediatek. The processor packs 4 Cortex A7 cores clocked at 1.2GHz, and makes a pretty powerful setup comparable to last year’s Exynos 4412. The processor is coupled with 1GB of RAM, which means the phone will be good and smooth when it comes to multitasking as well has hardware intensive gaming. Only a few users will feel the need for more RAM.

The phone is powered by a 2200mAh battery, which, by the sounds of it, does sound good enough to take you through one entire day of moderate to heavy usage. It would also depend on how well iBall have optimized the Android OS for battery consumption.

Display And Features

The iBall device comes with a 5 inch display which packs a qHD resolution of 960×540 pixels. This can be considered average for a device of this sort, however, better ones are available in the market albeit for a bit more. The display should suffice for users looking for productivity on their device, but multimedia lovers might find themselves wanting. An HD display would have been perfect.

Among other features, the phone supports dual SIM and comes with Android v4.2 Jelly Bean, which can be considered pretty good.

Comparison

The quad core segment in the Indian market has been growing at an immense rate.

This means that the phone has innumerable competitors from manufacturers domestic and international. This can include devices like Videocon A55HD, XOLO Q1000, Lava Iris 504Q and a handful of devices from Micromax.

Key Specs

Model iBall Andi 5h Quadro
Display 5 inches qHD (960x540p)
Processor 1.2GHz quad core
RAM, ROM 1GB RAM, 4GB ROM expandable up to 32GB
Cameras 12MP rear, 2MP front
OS Android v4.2
Battery 2200mAh
Price 11,999 INR

Conclusion

The phone does sound like a good device. However, iBall is not the most popular manufacturer in the country, and people still favour Micromax and XOLO more. The pricing of the device has been done quite well, which might help iBall in selling the device well. It might take iBall some time in gaining popularity, but the way it is going, we can imagine the device selling well with time.

    • Abhishek

  • arun jangid

please let me know about the gaming review and music quality of this phone in headphones???
and from xolo q800,micromax a110q canvas 2 plus or iball andi 5h quadro…which one should i buy???

    • http://www.gadgetstouse.com Yash Garg

We’ll let you know of the quality when we receive the review unit!
Out of those, we would suggest you to go for the Canvas 2 Plus simply because of the more number of service centers Micromax has set up in the country.

  • Shekar Nair

I did an extensive research for this mobile and I purchased it from flipkart today. I would receive it in a few days. As a mobile enthusiast, I would be happy to share my views on it. Some of the phones which I considered prior to this purchase were the Xolo Q1000s, Samsung core, Lumia and Xperia. But finally settled for this owing to its superior technical configuration.

    • Abhishek

It would be great if you can help fellow readers, we need contributors like you.

    • Ayan

Rest of the handests aside, but you chose this mobile over xolo q1000s owing to its ‘superior technical specifications”?????? Do you have a proper understanding of the processors both this handset and the q1000s use??? You should be honest and admit that in choosing this handset over q1000s,the PRICE was your primary criteria, and NOT tech spec. Pls get a life bro!

      • http://www.gadgetstouse.com Yash Garg

Hey Ayan, take it easy mate!
What do you think of the device? We’d like to know! (keep the discussion healty ;))

  • Shekar Nair

    @Ayan

When you compare 2 mobile, you take all factors into consideration including their price. In most cases, the mobile with higher technical specifications and higher cost is always deemed the winner. As far as the Indian mentality goes, this is dead true and it is a trademark which should be laughed at.

So how do you judge which phone is better ? There are a lot of guidelines, but I am not going to discuss it here. On the contrary I am going to answer your question:

Xolo Q100s has no removable battery. Once battery life is dead you will have to chuck it out. (I needn’t tell you about the battery life as it is an Android phone which requires frequent charging almost on a daily basis.)

Xolo Q 100s has no expandable memory slot. You have to be satisfied with internal memory. Imagine a flagship phone with all so-called “hi-tech technical configuration” not providing expandable memory option. What will an avid gamer or app user do ? Will they repeat the same mistake and buy the same xolo model with to install new apps and store photos/videos ? Seems unwise to me.

Did you know that the power On-Off switch of Xolo Q100s came off during soon after unboxing done by a popular mobile review site ? They had to use their finger nails to power on. So much for build quality and longevity for a Rs. 16000 phone.

And, did you know that the sim goes in easily but you will have to use your “toolkit” to remove it ? Xolo has provided a pin like tool especially for that. Can you imagine ? Top class indeed.

Thirdly, try and send a query to Xolo regarding the device. From my own personal experience, they have not replied till date. What good is a phone if you dont get good support. Suppose your phone goes dead what will you do if you dont have anyone to turn to ? Think about it.

It doesnt have a dual sim option.

I believe any sane buyer would think twice before paying through their nose and not getting quality product or support.

As a moral responsibility, I have given links below of all the drawbacks I have read ans seen in Xolo Q1000s to prove that I am not making anything up:

Link for Non Removable Battery: gadgets.ndtv.com/xolo-q1000s-997

Link for Broken Power On-Off Switch: thinkdigit.com/Mobiles-PDAs/Xolo-Q1000S-review_17498.html

Link for No Expandable Memory, No dual sim: openbin.in/xolo-q1000s-slimmest-smartphone-qcore-series/

So, Mr. Aryan, crossing benchmarks and pricing high is not sufficient to give a good grade to a mobile. If that was the case, then there would not have to be so many reviews written by so many mobile enthusiasts.

On a personal note Mr Aryan, I am not your bro and you are not my sis. As an Indian you could show better class in communication. I think the standard of education is deteriorating as it proves in your case. I have a life and I am living it well enough. Unfortunately, I cant say the same in your case….

  • Aiyaz kazi

Have been using the phone since a week now and i would say im happy with my decision. The reason i choose iball after doing a lot of research on the net and checking with my friends and colleagues who are using other brands and ofcourse price was a major factor aswell as wanted to go for a budget smartphone.Well im not a geek but like to give you a general review a review that matters to indians who want to invest in budget handsets

Camera : 12MP clicks decent snaps ofcourse not at par with reputed brands but clarity is fine my htc with 8mp used to click better snaps but the auto feature in the camera is not properly calibrated you will have to manually change the settings in the camera options eg: If u wanna click snaps in night manually select the night mode to click good snaps as the auto feature doesn’t detect the same. The front 2MP camera is also good enough for video call.

Processor : Quadcore 1.2 Ghz wanted to test the processor hence downloaded some highend games like Asphalt Airborne and NFS Most wanted most wanted worked flawlessly but asphalt was a little laggy but thats fine as it was laggy on my friend’s HTC one X aswell the rest of the common games such as temple run, subway surfer work absolutely fine also the phone does not hang even when multiple applications are open does multitasking with ease.

Battery : This is the best part i have never seen a phone whose battery lasts as good as the iball i just do a full charge once in the morning and the battery lasts till the next day morning even though im a highend user with my 3G services on the whole day, dual sims and i listen to music and watch movies on the phone really happy with the battery life while with my earlier phones atleast used to charge it thrice in a day.

Overall im quite happy with phone can’t ask anything more from a phone that just cost me 10.5K bought it from alpha Vile parle.

    • http://www.gadgetstouse.com Yash Garg

Very interesting! Thanks for taking time out to review the device, Aiyaz, I’m sure this will help your fellow readers. Have to say, you got a great deal there! Can’t expect more from a 10.5K phone at the moment.
      Cheers!

      • Saif

    Noddy

    • Shishir

Yes, that is one question I have been meaning to ask…my budget range is somewhere around 11k and I am stuck in deciding between iball andi 5h quadro and 4.5d quadro…also, is there a reason why I should choose micromax canvas 2 plus rather than these two?…thanks in advance…

      • Abhishek

we cant comment much on it, iball devices looks good, but we will tell you more once we get these devices for review.

        • Shishir

Anything new?…When should we be expecting a review from your side?…From what I see, a few users, though not all, complain about the speakers not working while on call…Any comment on that?…Thanks in advance for everthing, I’m basing my decision on buying the phone, on the reviews…I’d be glad if there are other suggestions…My requirements are minimum qHD display, 1Gb ram a decent graphics processor, and an awesome battery…Expecting ur reply!

          • Shishir

Oh, and also, regarding the flash out of sync with the camera, is there a way through software to synchronise flash?

          • Abhishek

we will let you know, once we get this device for review.

          • Abhishek

I would rather suggest you gionee elife e3, canvas magnus instead of this one.

  • anonymous

Hi guys, i want to buy it but i have read in my forums that it’s camera is not in sync with flash, so please confirm if it does have this problem or not. Thanks in advance.

I have a iBall Andi 5h Quadro phone. I live in Sri Lanka. My son who is studying in India bought the phone for me through ebay about three months back. I was really 100% satisfied with the phone and I have written several reviews also about the phone on web sites like this.

But today suddenly my phone gave a problem. Now, I cant here any incoming calls. But the caller can here me well. Also, through speakerphone I can here the incoming calls. No other defects in the phone. I had a live chat with the iBall Company little while ago. They say that the problem is in the earpiece and they want me to bring the phone to a service centre in India. The phone is still under warranty. But when my son comes back and goes back to India it will be after about 8 months time. Then the warranty will be over.

This phone is a superb phone. But this is a good lesson for those who buy phones or any other items which are not there in our own country.

    • RAJENDRA K RAO

      Hi Lasantha…
It’s a very valued information you ‘ve provided. Thanks a lot. So pitiful that you got struck up in such a situation. Why can’t you send the instrument to the company / service centre through any reputed courier or cargo service ????? I don’t know whether it’s viable. Anyway take further step only after getting thorough guidelines from i-ball people itself.
