Micromax Canvas 2 Plus A110Q Quick Review, Price And Comparison

Ads by Google

Another Canvas phone from Micromax is here – and the buzz it has managed to create is nothing lesser than what it managed to do with other Canvas releases. Micromax has become like the ‘mainstream’ brand of budget phones in India, even with innumerable competitors trying to steal that tag from them.

The Canvas 2 Plus is the upgraded version of the very popular Canvas 2 A110, which was a dual core phone from Micromax and made waves, quite literally.

This post would be focussing on the specifications of the device and comparison with other similar phones in the range.

Camera:

The Canvas 2 Plus will come with an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera for video calling. There has been no upgrade from the Canvas 2 when it is the rear camera, however, the front camera has been bumped from a VGA to a 2MP on the Canvas 2 Plus.

The Canvas 2 was among the first budget phones to sport an 8MP camera, however the quality was not as good as you would expect from an 8MP unit. We hope Micromax have looked into this and taken care of the camera quality now.

Speaking on the basis of numbers, 8MP+2MP should make a decent enough combination for a budget phone, although there are better ones available in the market today. There will be dual LED flash support for the rear camera, which will also have autofocus enabled.

Processor and Battery:

The Canvas 2 Plus gets an upgrade to the hugely popular quad core MT6589, clocked at 1.2GHz. This upgrade is pretty significant, considering the Canvas 2 had an MT6577 dual core based on Cortex A7. So, the Canvas 2 Plus gets an upgrade in the number of cores, and also the architecture; being based on the newer Cortex A7 architecture. The MT6589 is a proven chipset, capable of driving full HD phones (ZP980, UMI X2). So, driving the FWVGA (854×480) screen on the Canvas 2 Plus should be a breeze for the chipset.

Fans would’ve hoped for a bigger battery but unfortunately Micromax have decided to ship the Canvas 2 Plus with the same 2000mAh battery seen in the Canvas 2. Having said that, it is important to keep in mind that 2000mAh is not too bad – plus the Cortex A7 architecture uses much lesser power compared to the earlier versions so we do expect to see better battery backup although the battery remains the same.

Display type and Size:

The display remains the same too – 5 inch IPS. The display on the Canvas 2 was lauded thanks to the good viewing angles and brightness. Even the resolution remains the same at FWVGA (854×480 pixels). Just the it’s predecessor, the 5 inch IPS display should be a treat for people who do multimedia on the as well as those who surf the web a lot.

When we are concerned, we think that a 5 inch phone is ideal because it is easy to carry around, and at the same time big enough so that you do not miss out on detail.

Canvas 2 Plus

Processor 1.2 GHz quad core MT6589
Cameras 8MP with dual LED flash and autofocus rear, 2MP front
Screen 5 inch IPS FWVGA (854x480p)
Battery 2000mAh
Price 12,100 INR

Conclusion And Price:

Just like other Micromax phones, the Canvas 2 Plus has been priced well at 12,100 INR. Considering you get a quad core processor, 8MP camera and a 5 inch IPS display, we do not think people will think twice before going for this device. Even though many other manufacturers are offering similar hardware at lesser price, people in India have a soft corner for Micromax – and they deserve it because Micromax have always been the pioneer in the budget market, other brands have only followed them.

The device can be bought from the Micromax e-store today onward.
