Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini A200 Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Micromax has presented the Mini Variant of its Flagship phone, Micromax Canvas Turbo A250 (Full Review) in India and the phone is listed on Flipkart as of now. The Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini A 200 presents an interesting comfortable to hold 4.7 inch option from Micromax in the fiercely competitive range of 10,000 to 15,000 INR. Let’s dive deep into the hardware specs of Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini to know how it stands with respect to the competition.

Camera and Internal Storage

The primary camera has an 8 MP sensor. Micromax is offering a 12 or 13 MP camera in the same price range with phones like Micromax Canvas Magnus, but the 8 MP has been opted due to limitations of MT6582 Chipset. The front camera retains the 5 MP fixed focus shooter conventionally seen in high end Canvas series phones. The software UI additions like like Cinemagraph and Object eraser have made their way to Mini variant as well.

The internal storage is 4 GB and can be further extended to 32 GB using microSD support. The 4 GB Nand Flash storage seems inadequate at the price range, especially when the trend is progressing towards more onboard storage which is faster to read and write on as compared to external MicroSD storage.

Processor and Battery

As already stated, the phone carries MT65822 SoC under the hood which features 4 CPU cores clocked at 1.3 GHz and 2 Mali 400 MP2 GPU cores clocked at unspecified frequency. The chipset also houses 1 GB RAM for smooth performance. The low cost processor has been a decent performer so far in other devices. Micromax Canvas Turbo mini is pushing it to its limit considering the other hardware specs. We spotted the phone on Antutu recently with benchmark score of 16,921 which is pretty impressive (This can’t be confirmed for the final device as of now)

The battery capacity is 1800 mAh which will provide with 6 hours of 2G talk time and 180 hours of 2G standby time , which is not impressive. For uninterrupted enjoyment it is advisable that you throw in extra 1000 bucks for a battery bank.

Display and Other Features

The IPS LCD Display is 4.7 inches in size and sports 720p HD resolution. The pixel density of 312 pixels per inches implies that the display will be quite sharp and you won’t notice any pixilation. The 4.7 inch display strikes the right balance between 4.5 inch and 5 inch display by providing enough display real estate along with option for one hand usage and easy portability in your pockets.

The phone runs on Android 4.2 jelly bean operating system and supports dual SIM dual Standby functionality. We expect the gesture features seen in Canvas 4 and Canvas Turbo to be present in Turbo Mini as well similar to the Camera UI.

Looks and Connectivity

The body design holds more semblances to Micromax Canvas Magnus rather than Micromax canvas Turbo. Canvas Turbo Mini is available in similar body colors – Blue and White, as the flagship. The back panel design hints at a removable battery unlike Micromax Canvas Turbo A250, the lateral edges suggest that the SIM card slot wont most likely be under the back panel. Connectivity features include 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth and GPS.

Comparison

The main competitor of the phone will be Lava Iris Pro 30, which packs slightly old hardware under the beautiful and light body design and similar 4.7 inch form factor and lies in the same price bracket. The phone will also compete with phones like Micromax Canvas Magnus and upcoming Moto G which lie in the same price bracket.

Conclusion

The spec sheet is in line with what we expect from the Mini variant of Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini and so is the form factor and body design. The price seems slightly high considering the low cost MT6582 SoC and the fact that Micromax Canvas Turbo A250 is selling for only a couple of thousands more. After the initial price cut in a few weeks it will be a more palatable option. If you are looking for a 4.7 Inch form factor in the range of 10,000 to 15,000 INR, this might be the answer.
