Xolo Q700S Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Cashing in on the popularity of Xolo Q700 (Full Review), Xolo has launched another variant of the smartphone after Xolo Q700i (Quick Review) dubbed as Xolo Q700S. Unlike Xolo Q700i, this time Xolo has also modified the body casing apart from the hardware and has presented a revamped Xolo Q700 under 10,000 INR. Let’s discuss if Xolo Q700S is a worthy successor of Xolo Q700 a popular budget quad core phone throughout 2013.

Camera and Internal Storage

The camera features are similar to what we saw in Xolo Q700i. The primary autofocus camera has an 8 MP sensor supported by LED flash support and is capable of full HD 1080p video recording. Neither the Xolo Q700 nor Q700i supports full HD video recording. At the front, a VGA camera is present for video recording.

The Internal storage also remains same at 4GB. The storage can be extended to 32 GB using MicroSD support. We hope this phone also supports USB OTG similar to Xolo Q700, to further simply storage options.

Processor and Battery

The Xolo Q700S houses the MT6582M quad core SoC with 4 CPU cores clocked at 1.3 GHz and assisted by Mali 400 MP2 GPU and 1 GB RAM. The processor is expected to easily outperform the MT6589W-M processor in Xolo Q700. The MT6582 chipset is replacing MT6589 series devices in most budget devices these days as it offers decent performance with significant reduction in price.

The Battery capacity is reduced to 1800 mAh, but Xolo claims a better standby time of 450 hours on 3G and a talk time of 9 Hrs on 3G and 23 Hrs on 2G which is above average considering the price range.

Display and Other Features

The display resolution has been compromised in Xolo Q700S. The 4.5 inch IPS LCD Panel now features FWVGA resolution instead of qHD in the predecessor. The drop in resolution and pixel density (218 ppi VS 245 ppi) is disheartening but won’t be deal breaker on a 4.5 inch display.

The phone runs on Android 4.2 jelly bean operating system and supports Dual SIM Dual Standby functionality. The SAR value has also been reduced from 0.8 W/Kg (head) to 0.33 W/Kg (head) and this will make it more appealing to those conscious of radiation exposure.

Looks and Connectivity

The Xolo Q700S features a slimmer body design compared to the other two variants (8.9 mm VS 10.1 mm) and is more rounded around the edges. Other minor changes include the shifting in position of front camera and proximity sensor from right to left and slight reduction in width. The metallic finish phone will be available in Silver and Gold color.Connectivity features include 3G HSPA, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, Micro USB 2.0 and GPS with AGPS support.

Comparison

The Xolo Q700S will compete against other quad core phones less than 10,000 INR like Micromax Canvas Mad A94, Intex Aqua i6, Xolo Q1000 Opus, Xolo Q800 etc.

Conclusion

The Xolo Q700S is a competitive quad core device in budget price segment where most MT6582 chipsets are offering mere 512 MB RAM. The Xolo Q700S is a definite improvement over its predecessor considering the spec sheet and price tag it flaunts, something which couldn’t be said about Xolo Q700i. The only downside is the reduced display resolution.
