Lava Iris 458q Quick review, Price and Comparison

Its seems the single core and dual core devices are becoming an old age stuff for the Indian mobile manufacturer as almost all the Indian Mobile manufacturer are trying to provide their best in the race of quad core devices. We have seen a lots of quad core device flowing continuously in Indian market and now one more Indian Smartphone maker, Lava has recently launched the budget quad-core Smartphone, Iris 458Q for Rs.8, 999 which will be the company’s latest flagship Smartphone in its Iris series.

The device has a 4.5-inch (854 ×480 pixels) FWVGA capacitive touch sceen display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) which is really impressive. The 8.0-megapixel camera with Auto-focus, face detection, LED flash support is an another impressive feature of the device. On the connectivity front, the phone supports 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, and comes with sensors like Proximity, Light and G Sensor which is also very interesting for the price tag.

Few days ago, we have seen Xolo launching a budget quad core device Xolo Q700 for Rs.9,999 and now this device Iris 458Q from Lava seems to be competing with the device as it share few common feature with the device from Xolo and have an economic price tag of Rs.8,999 (lowest available price: Rs.8499 at infibeam.com) as compared to Xolo Q700. UMI X1S could also be a good competitor for this device as it lies in the same range with the price tag of Rs.10,500 INR and have Quad core processor. So today we will be comparing the Lava Iris 458Q with the two other budget quad core device Xolo Q700 and UMI X1S and check which one could be a better option.

Camera:

Lava Iris 458Q got a main rear camera of 8 MP with auto Focus and LED flash which is same as the UMI X1S which also got the camera of same 8MP rear but far better than Xolo Q700 which has a main camera of only 5.0 MP but the secondary camera for this device looks bit weak. It got 0.3MP of secondary camera which is same as Xolo Q700 but poor when compared to UMI X1S’ 2MP front camera. But as the front camera is use mainly for video chat I will not mind much to use the 0.3MP camera rather paying more than Rs.1000 extra just for the front camera.

Processor and Battery:

As I already said the Lava Iris 458Q will be coming with a quad core processor. We are not sure about the cheapest used in the device but it could be MediaTek as this is the trend going on in the current Indian Quad core market and also anything less than this will be of no use. The competitors Xolo 700 and UMI X1S sports the Mediatek MTK6589 Quad Core processor. Coming toward the battery the Lava Iris 458Q got a 2000 mAh battery which is better than the UMI X1S as it is getting a power of 1750mAh rechargeable lithium battery but it looks weak compared to Xolo which pack 2400 mAh battery and gives 17 hrs 2G talk time and 16 hrs 3G talk time.

Display Type and Size:

Coming toward the display size all the three compared device got the display of 4.5 inches but there is a difference in the quality. The Lava Iris 458Q got a 4.5-inch FWVGA capacitive touch sceen display which has a bit poor display resolution of 854 ×480 pixels where as Umi-X1s has got a 4.5 inches HD multi-touch screen display with the better display resolution of 1280×720 pixel which support 1600k colors and the Xolo Q700 has 4.5 inches of IPS LCD display with OGS and the display resolution of 960 x 540 pixel. So here the UMI X1S clearly wins the point for the display.

Key feature and Specifications:

Lava Iris 458Q
RAM, ROM 512MB RAM, 4GB internal memory, expandable memory up to 32GB with micro SD
Processor 1.2GHz Quad-core processor
Cameras 8MP rear, 0.3MP front
Screen 4.5-inch FWGA display with 480x854p resolution
Battery 2100mAh (Li-Ion battery)
Price 8,999 INR

Conclusion:

Specification wise, the Iris 458q looks impressive as it got a latest android version and runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which is quite an offering at this price point. And being one of the lowest budget device with 1.2GHz quad-core processor supported by 512MB of RAM it gets an upper hand over the other quad core device available in the market. It also comes with pre-loaded apps like WeChat, Push Mail, Ebook reader and more along with some HD movies and HD games. So the competition will be interesting. the new Lava Iris 458Q is expected to hit retail stores in the coming days. As of now, it can be purchased through online store Infibeam.com for Rs.8,499.
