Today at New Delhi, India the Lenovo has launched its new range of Smartphone. At this event the company has launched its new flagship device Lenovo K900 and with this device there were several other devices launched at this event, expanding the company’s portfolio. The company has launched total of 6 Smartphone and among the six, the Lenovo A706 is a mid range model with modest specs and a equally modest price.
The Lenovo A706 is a Quad core device and will be a new competition to the Quad core device launched by the Indian manufacturers. The Micromax Canvas HD 116 is one of the best selling quad core device we have in the market. So with the launch of this Quad core device Lenovo will surely targeting this Micromax device.
Camera and Internal Storage
The Lenovo A706 is featured with 5 MP rear camera with single LED flash. This camera will be having an auto focus support and can shoot a video at 720P with sound. The camera can support the pixel resolution of 1280×720 which is pretty good. The device also got the secondary VGA front facing camera for the video chatting.
In the Storage segment, the device offers 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card and features 1GB of RAM for the processing. The RAM and the internal memory both looks decent for this mid range device.
Processor and Battery
The device is powered by a 1GHz quad core processor, having Snapdragon 200 MSM8225Q CPU. The processor will also get the support of Adreno 203 for graphics processing. The processor is based on the Cortex A5 architecture to further reduce power consumption and more conducive to mobile phone power saving. It can support LPDDRI with LPDDR2 memory and speed (frequency) of up to 1066Mbps which is not bad.
The battery is also an impressive factor in the device as it has Li-ion 2000mAh powered battery. With the powerful quad core processor of 1.2GHZ the battery should be able to support you through on the work day. The 4.5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 480×854 pixels could again be a battery monger for the device. So with all this if you get the battery back-up of around 10 to 12 hours then it could prove to be good deal for you.
Display Size and Type
The device has the Plastic & metal body of dimension 136x69x10.4mm which will be weighting 137Gms and with this body dimension the device has the display size of 4.5 Inch. This is not too big to be called a phablet and hence can be carried easily in your pocket. With a 4.5 inch FWGA the device has the display resolution of 854×480 display and the A706 might be lacking when directly compared with the 5 inch 720p displays in competing phones of the same price range, but it makes up for it in having an IPS display. It has the IPS-LCD Capacitive Multi Touch Screen supporting 16M colors.

Comparison
As we said the device can be a good competition to one of the best selling device in the Quad core market, lets compare few specs of this two competitor. The Micromax canvas HD 116 has a bigger display when compared to Lenovo A706 as it has 5 inches of display and the display resolution is also better in case of Micromax 116. Both the devices is powered by the processor with same frequency band of 1.2GHz but the chipset is different. The Micromax’s device has MTK MT6589 chipset which has Cortex-A7 architecture where as we have seen earlier that Lenovo process a chipset of Snapdragon Qualcomm with Cortex A5 architecture. So again the Micromax earns the point.
Both the devices will be running Android 4.1 version where as Micromax Canvas HD 116 is planned to get the upgrade to Android 4.2 version as well. The camera also looks good in case of Micromax Canvas 116 as it is featured with 8 MP main camera with the resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. The remaining specs like 1GB of RAM, 4GB internal memory with microSD slots and 2000 mAh battery is same in both the device. So from the overall specs, the Micromax canvas HD 116 seems to be a winner of this competition.
