The Lenovo S820 is one out of the 6 phones Lenovo launched earlier today. The S820 comes with powerful hardware which includes a 720p screen measuring 4.7 inches, and will retail for 19,599 INR in the Indian market. The phone is touted to challenge the Gionee Dream D1, Micromax Canvas HD and the likes.
The phone will come with the hugely popular MediaTek MT6589 chipset which houses a 1.2 GHz Cortex A7 based quad core processor.
Camera And Internal Storage
The Lenovo S820 comes with a surprising 13MP camera, something which we don’t usually see on MediaTek based devices. Pictures from the 13MP camera should be sharp and crisp, and should be good enough to live up to expectations of most shutterbugs. The 13MP shooter will be assisted with LED flash and autofocus, which will further add to the quality of the pictures. On the front, the S820 sports a 2MP camera, which should perform more than decently since most of us would only be using it for tasks such as video calls.
The S820 comes with a standard 4GB of on-board storage which we have seen on quite a few MediaTek based devices. The storage will be expandable to 32GB with a microSD card. Although 4GB will not be enough for most of us out here, the inclusion of a microSD card should make life easier.

The MT6589 is a proven processor, and coupled with 1GB of RAM it makes for a great combination which is multitask-efficient and powerful at the same time.
The device comes with a 2000mAh battery, which is sort of a standard in the industry in today’s day. The 2000mAh would probably take you through one day if you are not a heavy user, which most people are. The screen is pretty big at 4.7 inches, so we would have liked to see a battery bigger than that.

The S820 comes with a 4.7 inch screen, which houses a display panel of 1280x720p HD resolution. The display should be a treat since Lenovo have implemented the IPS-LCD technology in the display which allows for great visibility angles without the colour being washed away.

Comparison
The S820 is has joined the league of an already highly populated phones which come with a quad core processor from MediaTek. As mentioned earlier, the Lenovo S820 will be facing tough competition from devices like the Gionee Dream D1, Micromax Canvas HD, XOLO Q800, etc. Given the price point, the average buyer will lean towards cheaper options such as the Micromax Canvas HD. Apart from the cheaper price, the Canvas HD also comes with a bigger screen, i.e., 5 inches when compared to 4.7 inches on the S820.
The success of this device also depends on how well the other devices from Lenovo fare. If the other 5 devices do manage to create an impact in the market, the visibility of Lenovo in the market will increase which will lead to greater acceptance by the average buyer.

Conclusion And Price
The S820 comes with a rather steep price tag of 19,599 INR. This makes it one of the pricier phones with a MediaTek processor, since Indian manufacturers offer similar hardware for quite a bit less (typically in between 8-14,000 INR). We can expect the price to fall by a bit, but it still will cost more than any device from an Indian manufacturer.
The only edge it has over other phones is the 13MP camera which is a rarity in MT6589 phones. Apart from that, there is nothing much to speak of for this device, but we ought to say that Lenovo is indeed a trusted international brand, although it is still in it’s early days when it comes to mobile phones.
