Lava, an Indian Smartphone manufacturing firm is trying hard to establish its brand name in the Indian Market. From the last few days this company has launched few good devices in the Indian market including the recently launched Lava E-tab Xtron+ and Lava Iris 458Q and now the company has launched one more device in its favorite Iris series dubbed as Lava Iris 401E.
At present, Lava is not well known through the world as it is a recently setup Smartphone manufacturer company. It is a popular brand in India but struggling to make the brand in other part of the world. Lava was noticed to launch the low budget devices same as most of the other Indian mobile manufacturer and the company, following its trend, has again decided to launch another latest budget range smartphone i.e. Lava Iris 401e. The device has got 4 inches of display but the outdated Android version of 2.3.5 could be a concerned for potential buyers. The Samsung Galaxy Star can be a tough competitor for this device.
Camera and Internal Storage
Lava Iris 401e is equipped with only rear view camera and there is no Front facing secondary camera in this device. The rear camera is 3.0 MP which can snap pictures with the resolution of 2038 x 1536 pixels. and as there is no secondary or front facing camera equipped in the smartphone, you will not be able to make a video call using this device. The camera has features like autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, zoom, face, etc. The video capture can support MP4, AVI and 3GP formats and looks decent for the low budget device
The smartphone comes with an pretty low inbuilt memory of 200 MB (Internal) + 512 MB (ROM) which is bit disappointing as you can store only limited number of songs and videos on phone’s memory. It can be compensated as the you can increase the inbuilt storage capacity by using the microSD card slot. Memory can be extended maximum up to 32 GB by using a microSD card.
Processor and Battery
Running on Android OS, v2.3.5 (Gingerbread), the device is empowered with 1 GHz processor paired with 256 MB RAM memory. We are not yet sure on the chipset used in the device but being a low budget device you cannot expect a big innovation from this device.
The device is featured with a powerful Li-Ion 1500 mAH battery. The battery of the smartphone may not be a last-lasting but can assure a decent backup to users. The talk time of the smartphone is up to 6 hours while the standby time is up to 250 hours. The smartphone can continuously play music and videos for 10 hours easily.
Display Size and Type
Lava Iris 401e smartphone got a display of 4 inches, super IPS LCD, capacitive touchscreen with 16M colours and WVGA. The display resolution is WVGA supporting 480 x 800 pixels. This feature of the smartphone leads us to conclude that the smartphone is equipped with high quality HD display screen. The smartphone also supports touchscreen technology. Its powerful LCD capacitive touchscreen ensures the smother touch on the display screen.
Comparison
As we said earlier that this device could face a tough competition with an Internationally branded Samsung Galaxy Star, we will be now comparing few important specs of this two devices to see which one could be a good deal for the buyer. The display of Samsung Star is smaller by around 1 inch when compared to 4 inches of display of Lava Iris 401E. The display resolution of Samsung is also poor as it has QVGA resolution on 320×240 pixels where as the lava’s device got display resolution of WVGA supporting 480 x 800 pixel.
The rear camera also looks weak in Samsung device and have 1MP less when compared to Lava’s 401e. Both the device will be processing 1GHz single core processor having difference in RAM. The Lava has half the RAM provided in Samsung but as we are not sure on the chipset used in Lava’s device we will avoid commenting on the performance especially when both share same frequency powered single core processor. The battery is again weak in Samsung as it has got 1200mAh battery power versus 1500mAh battery of Lava’s 401e. One thing that is better is the Android version provided in Samsung. The Samsung will run Android Jelly bean where as Lava has bit older version of Android. So apart from the operating system used in the device, Lava seems to have an upper hand on Samsung Galaxy Star.
