Lava Iris 504Q Quick Review, Price And Comparison

Lava recently launched the Iris 504Q, a phone which promises great performance at a very affordable price. The phone further populates the ever-growing list of budget quad-core phones from domestic manufacturers, and the phone does leave an impression, thanks to some new features it comes with.

Camera And Internal Storage

The Lava Iris 504Q comes with an 8 megapixel rear camera which has become the standard in budget quad core phones from domestic manufacturers. The front camera is a 2 megapixel unit, and should allow you for decent video calling. Chinese manufacturers like UMI are indeed offering better cameras at this price, but you cannot complain since there will be a huge difference when it comes to after-sales service.

The phone comes with a rather low amount of internal storage at only 4GB, but thankfully this can be expanded up to 32GB via a microSD card. In the near future we expect most manufacturers to increase the internal storage to 16GB at least, since almost all users have to use microSD cards with only 4GB of storage.

Processor And Battery

The phone comes with the well-documented, tried and tested MediaTek MT6589. The low-cost processor is known for it’s superb performance, and the 504Q comes with 1GB of RAM, which means multitasking will not be a problem too. The phone will be able to play most games at high settings, however you might need to lower graphics settings on some newer games.

The phone packs a 2000mAh battery which should be able to take you through one day, however if you are a heavy user or a gamer, it might be wise to carry a mobile power bank or a charger with you, which you’d most probably have to use by 5-6 hours of run-time.

Display Size And Type

The Lava Iris 504Q comes with a 5 inch display panel which packs an HD resolution of 1280x720p. Although there are phones coming out with 1080p displays, we feel 720p is the way to go since there is not much of a difference (hardly noticeable), and phones with 720p displays perform better than 1080p phones, since the lesser resolution makes it easier for CPU+GPU to process data.

You can expect pictures and movies to be crisp and clear, without losing much detail. Gaming should be fun too, without any lags whatsoever, on most games.

Comparison

The Iris 504Q has its own share of competitors in the form of Micromax Canvas 2 Plus, Intex Aqua i-5, XOLO Q800, etc.

The Lava Iris 504Q is not the cheapest among them, and does not come with the best features too, but taking nothing away from this device. There are a few cheaper options available in the market which offer similar specifications and performance.

Key Specs

Model Lava Iris 504Q
Display 5 inch 720p HD
RAM, ROM 1GB RAM, 4GB ROM expandable up to 32GB
Processor 1.2 GHz quad core MT6589
Cameras 8MP rear, 2MP front

Battery 2000mAh

Conclusion

Although the Lava Iris 504Q is not the cheapest option available in the market today, Lava would hope the device does well, keeping in mind the success of their previous devices. The phone does offer decent specifications for a good price, and after sales support should not be a problem too.

Just one word, we would have loved to see a 12MP instead of the bundled 8MP camera on the 504Q, that would’ve made the phone one of the top contenders in the budget smartphone market.
