Micromax are back with a new device, the Canvas Fun A76, after silently releasing the Canvas Doodle 2 after it did rounds of rumours for a while.

The A76 is a typical mid-ranger with a 5 inch screen and a dual core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. There will be 512MB of RAM complementing the processor, which makes for a decently powerful setup.

The 5 inch screen would feature an FWVGA resolution of 854 x 480 pixels, which is in agreement with the mid-ranger tag given to the device. On the imaging front, the Canvas Fun packs a 5MP rear unit coupled with a 0.3MP front camera. We’ve seen better sets of cameras but Micromax probably decided to cut costs here.

The phone will have an average sized battery in a 2000mAh unit, and will come preinstalled with Android v4.2. Like most other Micromax devices, the Canvas Fun too, will have support for dual SIMs. There will be an expected 4GB ROM, out of which about 1.25GB will be reserved for user files. The presence of a microSD slot means you can expand storage up to 32GB.

The other device that was launched along with the Canvas Fun A76 is the Bolt A67. This device comes with a 4.5 inch capacitive display, and runs on Android v4.0 which is pretty outdated by now. The device comes with a set of cameras that include a 2MP rear and a 0.3MP front camera, to aid in photography and video calls, only on WiFi since the device does not feature 3G. The phone is powered by a 1GHz dual core processor that is complemented by 512MB of RAM, something we often see in the price range.

On the storage front, the device comes with a standard 4GB ROM that can be expanded up to 32GB via a microSD card. The device comes with a price tag of 5,975 INR.

Micromax have been proactive after taking it easy for a while since the release of the Canvas 4. Surprisingly, many domestic manufacturers have shown keen interest in budget dual core smartphones of late, which tells us a lot about the current state of affairs in the Indian smartphone market. You can buy the Canvas Fun A76 from Snapdeal for a price of Rs. 8,499
