Nokia Lumia 625 VS Lumia 620 Comparison Review

The Lumia series was made popular by one of the best cost effective devices till date, the Nokia Lumia 520, which is a device that sells for about 9,000 INR and comes with specifications that scream value for money.  Ever since the launch of the Lumia 625, people have been talking whether the device lives up to the expectations of a successor to the Lumia 620.

Here we will be talking on the same, and comparing the devices neck to neck. Let us go ahead and see which of the two comes out to be victorious in the Windows Phone war!

Display And Processor

The Lumia 625 features a very usable and practically sized 4.7 inch display, while the predecessor, the Lumia 620, comes with a rather oddly sized display of 3.8 inches. Not only does the 3.8 inch display on the Lumia 620 take time to get used to, but multimedia isn’t as enjoyable as a 4.7 inch screen due to limitations in size as well as aspect ratio.

However, the Lumia 620 wins the pixel density battle, since both the devices come with the same WVGA resolution of 800×480 pixels, which means that the Lumia 620 will have pixels packed much closer together due to the much smaller screen.

As far as the processors are concerned, it is quite understandable and obvious that the 625 comes with an upgraded processor. However, the difference shouldn’t be much; the 625 comes with a dual core Qualcomm MSM8930 Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.2 GHz while the 620 comes with the slightly underpowered Snapdragon S4 with 1GHz per core, dual core again.

Camera And Memory

Both the devices carry exactly the same set of cameras. They come with a 5MP main unit at the rear that’s capable of taking pictures up to 2592х1936 pixels in resolution, while the front camera on these devices is a modest VGA unit.

We would assume the sensors to be identical in every other aspect as well, so there isn’t much that can be chosen from these two devices as far as the imaging hardware is concerned.

The devices turn out to be identical on the storage front as well. Both devices feature 8GB on-board ROM, out of which some part is taken by the WP8 OS and the rest left for user files. Both these devices have microSD slots that can work with cards up to 64GB in size, unlike many Android devices that can accept only 32GB.

Battery And Features

The Lumia 625 beats it’s predecessor hands-down when it comes to battery. The 625 has a 2000mAh battery, which is considered above average for a Windows Phone of today. Had it been an Android, a 2000mAh would’ve been classified as average, or even below-average by some. On the other hand, the Lumia 620 comes with a rather teeny 1300mAh unit, which frankly, is a bit disappointing.

Windows Phone devices are known to be better optimized with their hardware as well as apps as compared to Android devices, so a 2000mAh unit will take you through quite a few more hours when compared to the same battery on an Android device.

Other features of both the devices include an Adreno 305 GPU, which can handle most of today’s apps, if you’re not running them at the highest available settings.

Conclusion

The newer device out of the two, the Lumia 625 does have a few advantages over the 620 that include a battery of bigger capacity, a slightly powerful processor, and a bigger, much more usable screen. However, we do not think that the difference of 7,500 INR is justified by this minimal upgrade. Had it been an HD display, the price difference would’ve seemed much more worthwhile, but given that even the display resolution is the same WVGA, we are lead to believe that the Lumia 625 is overpriced.

However, a price decrease is inevitable, albeit in a few weeks/months. But for now, if you’re confused between the two, Lumia 620 is the way to go.
