The Huawei Ascend Mate was unveiled a few weeks back, and the device made waves thanks to the configuration it carries, which includes a humongous 4050mAh battery. On the other hand, the Canvas Doodle 2 is Micromax’s homegrown phablet which aims to compete against the best in the world, while maintaining an affordable price tag.
The Doodle 2 is cheaper by a few grand, while the Ascend Mate is way ahead in terms of specifications. What device would you choose?
Display and Processor
The Huawei Ascend Mate comes with a massive 6.1 inch display, while the Doodle 2, on the other hand, comes with a slightly smaller 5.7 inch one. We would probably choose the 5.7 inch display over the 6.1, simply for the fact that a 5.7 incher seems much more jeans-friendly. In layman terms, the Doodle 2 would probably be a bit better when it comes to mobility. The Ascend Mate might just be too big for some.
The 6.1 inch panel on the Ascend Mate packs a resolution of 1280×720 pixels, which could have been better. Most 2013 flagship phones, or even otherwise, come with full HD panels, so we can say that Huawei missed a trick here.
The Canvas Doodle 2 too comes with a 720p HD resolution. However, given the slightly smaller screen, the device does a bit better on pixel density. However, the difference should hardly be noticeable.
On the processing front, the Ascend Mate does a good 1.5 GHz quad core along with 2GB of RAM. We’re talking about the K3V2 from Huawei themselves, which is a pretty powerful setup indeed.
The Doodle 2 comes with the cheaper and older MT6589 which has 4 cores running at 1.2 GHz each. The phone will have 1GB of RAM which does fall short of what’s in the Ascend Mate, and it can safely be said that the Ascend Mate will be the better performer out of the two.
Camera and Memory
The Doodle 2 wins the camera battle with it’s 12MP rear shooter and a 5MP front. On the other hand, the Ascend Mate comes with an 8MP main camera at the rear and a 1MP front.
Although the difference between an 8MP rear and a 12MP rear camera does sound huge, you would probably be aware that Huawei uses better quality equipment which means the difference will not be as comprehensive as you think, at least with the rear cameras.
However, a substantial difference would be present as far as the front cameras are concerned. The Ascend Mate’s front camera means business; it is purely meant for video calls while users can use the Doodle 2 for self-portraits as well.
The Doodle 2 packs a good 16GB ROM which we really love to see. On the other hand Huawei cuts costs by including an 8GB ROM, falling short of the Doodle 2. However, Huawei Ascend Mate feature expandable storage and can work with microSD cards up to 32GB.
Battery and Features
This department is pretty much a no-show thanks to the massive 4050mAh battery on the Ascend Mate. This means that the Ascend Mate features on of the biggest batteries ever seen on a smartphone and promises long hours of usage.
On the other hand, the Canvas Doodle 2 packs a more digestible 2600mAh unit which is impressive in it’s own way, but is overshadowed by the Ascend Mate.

Conclusion
If you can live with a slightly larger screen and subsequently lesser pixel density, we would suggest you to go for the Ascend Mate without wasting much time. The Ascend Mate features some amazing specifications that include a powerful processor and 2GB of RAM, apart from the 4050mAh battery which is a highlight. On the other hand, the Canvas Doodle 2 makes a nice attempt at advertising itself as an alternative to other international phablets, but does fall short of the Ascend Mate by a bit.
