Android Phones Coming From Newkia Started By Ex Nokia Employee

Most of us have, at one time or the other, owned a Nokia phone, and for most it was the first phone we ever had. However, in recent times, the company has faced a lot of criticism for not keeping up with the latest technology – software wise, more so. Many dreamt of having the customizability of Android on a Nokia phone, since we all know that Nokia phones have the best build around. However, Nokia chose to go the Windows Phone way, which left many dejected.

Thomas Zilliacus

However, ex Nokia CEO, Thomas Zilliacus has gone on to create a new brand – Newkia – which will incorporate these two factors; Nokia build and the Android OS. We really hope this idea takes shape, since we’re sure it’s what the people want. It would really be wonderful to have the aforementioned qualities on a smartphone.

It is being speculated that Thomas Zilliacus plans to hire current designers and executives at Nokia to help propagate this new brand. We’re sure if he does manage to rope them in, they’ll prove to be more than a handful!

Although most technology enthusiasts have loved the idea of having the Android OS on a Nokia phone, most have criticized the choice of name by Thomas Zilliacus. Newkia, apparently, sounds like a very amateurish name to some.

He said, “What Newkia wants to do is to use Nokia know-how, technology, and design to build the world’s best smartphones, but running on Android,”. Zilliacus also feels that Nokia lost out on their market share because of their arrogance. He said that Nokia had a design similar to the iPhone 4 years before Apple launched it, and that Nokia didn’t launch the device because they thought it wouldn’t do well in the market.

Let’s hope that either the enthusiasts get used to it or the company comes up with another name. However, it will always be the hardware that they plan to manufacture which matters.
