Nokia 114 with support for Urdu Language at Rs. 2,579

Though Microsoft acquired Nokia devices and services, and future of Nokia feature phones is being looked upon with doubts and uncertainty, it is business as usual for now as Nokia has introduced another feature phone, Nokia 114, first phone in this country which comes with support for Urdu language.

Launching the Nokia 114, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Shri. Kapil Sibal said, “India today has one of the largest Urdu speaking populations in the world. The proliferation of Urdu language is deep rooted in our culture and we would like to connect this language to internet and mobile telephony like English. I would like to thank Nokia for being at the forefront of launching something unique which will benefit the over 15 crore Urdu speaking people in India.”

This phone comes with Nokia Xpress Browser which compresses websites on the cloud, which Nokia claims will save up to 90 % data consumption for those on limited Internet connection. The highlighted feature of Nokia phones is their long stand by times. This phone is no different and comes with up to 10 hrs of talk time and one month standby time

This Dual SIM phone comes with Nokia’s Easy Swap technology which alows you to switch Sims without removing battery and can also remember up to 5 SIMs for convenient swaping.


Mr. P.Balaji, Managing Director, Nokia India, said, “Given the regional diversity of our country, ability to communicate in the regional language has come across as a key expectation amongst our consumers. We were the first mobile company to support content and user interface in 11 Indian languages in India. Introducing Urdu keymat in Nokia 114 is another such initiative to reach out to our consumer across the country.”

To sum it up, Nokia 114 is Dual SIM budget feature phone which  basically targets the Urdu speaking population of India and offers Internet connectivity. It can be used for basic calling and messaging and you can opt it as a cheap secondary phone. It has been priced at a meager price of Rs. 2,579.
