Micromax Canvas Turbo VS Zen Ultrafone Amaze 701 Comparison Review

After a lot of hype, Zen finally unveiled the Ultrafone Amaze 701(Full Review) a few days back. The device is seen as a direct competitor to Micromax’s first full HD phone, the Canvas Turbo (Full Review). While Micromax boasts a steady supply and ever-growing after sales service base, Zen aim to build on their market share by coming up with great looking devices. Let us see how both these flagships fare!

Display and Processor

Both phones come with 5 inch full HD IPS displays, which hardly leaves us anything to choose from, at least when the display is concerned. As we said in the review, we quite liked the picture performance on the Zen Ultrafone Amaze, however, we noticed that the colours get faded, i.e., washed away when the viewing angle increases. On the other hand, the Canvas Turbo from Micromax didn’t show any such glitches, which probably means that it has a higher quality LCD panel used.

Both phones again feature identical hardware in the processing segment. Both come with the very popular MT6589T from MediaTek, which is a quad core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz per core. However, the Zen Ultrafone Amaze comes with only 1GB of RAM whereas the Canvas Turbo packs exactly the double amount, i.e., 2GB which means the phone will be the better one out of the two when it comes to multitasking, which might make the processor look better too.

Camera and Memory

Like almost all flagship devices of 2013, both, the Canvas Turbo as well as the Ultrafone Amaze feature 13MP main shooters at the rear of the device. Both phones do a good job at the photography department during daylight, and are decent during low-light situations as well. You can say that both phones are at par with each other here. On the front, the Ultrafone Amaze comes with an 8MP fixed focus camera, while the Canvas Turbo features a smaller-resolution 5MP unit, which again is of fixed focus type. We can’t say for certain if the 8MP is interpolated, but if it isn’t, the phone will have much better all-round results when compared to the Canvas Turbo.

The Ultrafone Amaze takes an upper hand at the memory department with its 16GB on-board ROM which is accompanied by a microSD slot, making the phone able to work with microSD cards up to 64GB in size. On the other hand, the Canvas Turno disappoints with just 16GB of ROM, offering no microSD slot.

Battery and Features

Both devices disappoint up to an extent with the battery. While the Ultrafone Amaze comes with a 2050mAh unit, the Canvas Turbo comes with a 2000mAh one. We would like to see manufacturers implement batteries of at least 2500mAh capacity, since it really isn’t very wise to go for teeny 2000mAh units. However, if we have to choose between either, we would go for Micromax simply because of the amount of time the company has spent in the middle, which would enable them to make more mature operating systems which translate into better battery life.

The Canvas Turbo comes with a very sturdy body which is one among its highlights. On the other hand, the Zen Ultrafone Amaze is among the best looking budget smartphones in India, so it is up to you to choose between looks and build quality.

Conclusion

Both devices have their own pros and cons; however, factors like good screen, decent camera, powerful processor are common to both. Zen have done a great job designing the device and including a microSD slot, and they even offer great-quality accessories along with the phone which includes a smart flip cover. On the other hand, Micromax have come up with a much more mature phone which not only comes with double the amount of RAM, but also with a very good build quality.

All in all, if you are looking for storage flexibility and can do with lesser on the build quality, you can think of the Zen Ultrafone Amaze as your prime candidate. On the other hand, if you wish for better performance and good build quality, and can give up on storage limitations, the Micromax Canvas Turbo is one for you.
