The XOLO A500S is among the hottest budget devices in the country at the moment, while Gionee’s Pioneer P2 is among those newcomers who have managed to give domestic brands a wake up call. Both devices cost around the 6000 INR mark and come with dual core processors and 512MB of RAM, which brings the competition to the neck. Let us go ahead and talk about each device in more detail, while hoping we make it easier for you to decide between either!
Display and Processor
Both devices feature a 4 inch WVGA display, making them smaller than the competition. The general trend these days makes manufacturers go for larger, 5 inch displays, which sometimes can be cumbersome to carry around and operate. However, with decent processors and 4 inch screens, these two devices are very practical and usable, while being highly mobile. We cannot choose one between the two on the basis of display, however, since both have exactly the same parameters.
Both devices again come with the same processor, i.e., 1.3GHz dual core from MediaTek. You can expect either device to perform well under normal conditions and usage, and return a fair enough battery life. Since both come with the same screen and processor, we take into account the cost; Pioneer P2 is the cheaper one among the two, meaning the device offers greater value for money.
Camera and Memory
Again, both devices come with exactly the same specifications here as well. Both feature a 5MP rear and a VGA front shooter, making them efficient devices for casual photography. However, if we have to choose one, we would go for Gionee, because the company has shown a lot of promise on the imaging segment, especially with the Elife E6.
On the internal storage front, both devices feature 4GB of on-board ROM like any other MediaTek based phone going around at this time. Around 2.2-2.5GB will be available to the user, which means usage of a microSD card is eminent. Both devices can work with cards up to 32GB which means we cannot choose one out of the two.
Battery and Features
The Gionee Pioneer P2 takes the upper hand in this segment with its 1700mAh battery, as opposed to the 1400mAh unit on the XOLO A500S. The difference is quite significant, and should translate to about 3-4 hours of extra overall usage on the P2 as compared to the A500S. Thus, if you’re looking for good battery life, you should go with the Pioneer P2 from Gionee which will also save you some bucks.
Nothing much on the feature segment on either phone, since both come in a section of the budget segment where keeping costs low is the key. However, the Gionee Pioneer P2 does come with DTS 3D surround sound which the A500S lacks, making the Pioneer P2 an obvious choice after a hard fought battle.
