So why should we be excited about a Broadcom chipset? The answer is because it will be cheaper. We can expect this 5 inch display Smartphone to be priced competitively.

XOLO has differentiated itself on delivering performance driven smartphone experience to its users. This tie up with Broadcom Corporation is another big step in the same direction. Our upcoming product – XOLO Q1000 OPUS will deliver high-end multimedia experience and GPS/GLONASS search location technology on a large 5 inch screen at an attractive price point”, says Sunil Raina, Business Head at XOLO.

XOLO will use Broadcom’s latest chipset BCM23550 (Java) for its new XOLO Q1000 Opus smartphone and this includes Broadcom’s BCM4334 connectivity combo chip and BCM4752 multi-constellation GNSS location chip. The processor used will be 1.2 GHz Quad core processor based on Cortex A7 architecture incorporating ARM NEON technology which offers Wide SIMD data processing architecture.

The chipset is capable of supporting 720p HD video playback and can support up to 720p HD display resolution only. Connectivity features supported include GPS/GLONASS, WLAN, MEMs and Cell ID for the best indoor/outdoor location and support for external HD panel via Wi-Fi Miracast-capable displays. The Data connectivity supported is 21Mbps HSPA+ downstream and 5.8 Mbps upstream.

The reduced price chipset will compete with phones with MT6582 quad core processor which we saw in Intex Aqua i6 recently. The phone will be an attractive option for those looking for running apps which require execution of multiple threads. The increased cores are not sufficient to judge the processing power of the phone but will definitely help in Marketing.
