Gionee Gpad G3 VS XOLO Q2000 Comparison Review

XOLO has had a rather successful year with devices like the Q800, Q1000 and the Q1000S. The wily subsidiary, owned by Lava Mobiles, recently joined the phablet breed with the launch of it’s 5.5 inch Q2000. On the other hand, Gionee has only had about a handful of months worth of operations in the country, and has already grown into one among the most reputable Chinese brands. The company unveiled the Gpad G3 a few weeks back.

Display and Processor

Both devices are phablets in the true sense, and come with 5.5 inch displays. However, the Q2000 is way ahead in terms of display resolution; the device features a 1280 x 720 pixel HD resolution on its 5.5 inch panel. On the other hand, the Gionee Gpad G3 comes with an outdated FWVGA display resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. Everything including general usage, gaming, and multimedia will be far more enjoyable on the HD resolution of the XOLO Q2000.

Nothing to choose from on the processing segment. Both phones come with a quad core 1.2 GHz processor from MediaTek. Another thing to consider is RAM; while the Q2000 features 1GB of RAM, the Gpad G3 comes with only 512MB which will make quite a difference, since we expect phablet users to be heavy on multitasking.

Camera and Memory

This again is a no-brainer. The XOLO Q2000 will outperform the Gionee Gpad G3 when it comes to imaging hardware thanks to the 13MP main camera it comes with. On the other hand, the main camera on the Gpad G3 is only a 5MP unit. On the front, the Gpad G3 comes with a VGA camera while the Q2000 packs a 2MP unit, which means it is not only the rear camera where the Q2000 is better.

Not a lot of difference in the amount of on-board storage provided by the manufacturers, but again the Q2000 has the upper hand with 8GB of on-board ROM as opposed to 4GB on the Gpad G3. Both devices, however, come with expansion capabilities.

Battery and Features

Although the Q2000 comes with a larger capacity battery, there won’t be much of a difference in the real world usage of either device, on a single charge, that is. The Q2000 features a 2600mAh unit, whereas Gionee’s Gpas G3 comes with a 2250mAh unit. The reason why we say there won’t be much of a difference is because the extra number of pixels on Q2000’s screen will invariably require much excess power, which will result in more or less the same battery life on either device.

Both devices come with Android v4.2 out of the box, and both feature dual SIM support.

Conclusion

It is a little unfair to directly compare the two devices head on, given that the Gionee Gpad G3 comes with a much lighter price tag. If you have the budget for the Q2000, then you do not need to think twice. On the other hand, the Gpad G3 is a great value for money device, and if you’re looking for an upgrade from your small screen phone to a phablet, then the G3 will do you good. Gionee’s build quality is by far better than what we have seen on domestic branded phones, which reaffirms the value for money nature of the device.
