HTC launched 3 new smartphones in its Desire series today, namely HTC Desire 501, Desire 601 and Desire 700. These phones have been priced at Rs. 16,890, Rs. 24,190 and Rs. 33,050. Apart from Desire 501, the pricing for the other two handsets doesn’t make much sense considering the competition, something which is not unexpected in HTC smartphones.
The HTC Desire 501 is a Dual SIM smartphone which has a 4.3 Inch display with WVGA resolution. The processor employed is 1.15 GHz Dual core processor backed by 1 GB RAM. The battery capacity is 2100 mAh and connectivity features include 3G support, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi.
The 8 GB of internal storage can be extended using MicroSD card support. The phone comes with Android 4.1 jelly bean operating system with Sense UI on top. At the back you will get an 8 MP camera with F2.0 aperture and BSI sensor. A 2.3 MP camera is present at the front for video calling. The Upcoming Moto G will be a tough competition to this phone from a Tier one manufacturer. The phone also supports Dual SIM Dual Active feature which is quite useful functionality.
The HTC Desire 601 has 4.5 inch Display with qHD resolution, which is not that impressive considering the price tag of Rs. 24,190. The phone will have a 1.2 GHz Quad core processor paired with 1 GB RAM the onboard storage is only 4 GB, which is again not impressive.
The primary camera has a 5 MP sensor and also comes with HTC Zoe. A VGA camera is present at the front for video calling. As you can see, the Desire 501, comes with a better camera at a lower price. The battery capacity is 2100 mAh which will provide you with 440 hours of standby time and 12.8 hours of talk time. The operating system is same at Android 4.1 jelly bean with Sense UI on top.
The HTC Desire 700 makes even less sense at Rs. 33,050. The phone comes with a 5 Inch qHD display, 1.2 GHz Quad core processor, 1 GB RAM and a similar 8 MOP camera module as seen in HTC Desire 501. You will get 2 HTC Boom sound speakers at the front. The 8 GB internal storage is extendable to 64 GB. 2100 mAh battery will give you 11.6 hours of talktime and 582 hours on standby time.
Apart from HTC Desire 501 which comes with some impressive features and body design, which includes the textured back cover, Desire 700 and Desire 601 do not make much sense when put head to head with the competition. For the price you can easily get Tier 1 phones like Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 with better features.
