iPhone 5C Review, Unboxing, Benchmarks, Gaming, Camera and Verdict

iPhone 5C is the latest addition in the iPhone family and this time it comes a very different build as compared to the previous recent generation phone we have seen. We have seen glass on the back on iPhone in iPhone 4 and 4S and then seen aluminum on the back on iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S but for the for the first time we see a iPhone 5C which has plastic, however this time its much better quality of plastic as compared to iPhone 3G and 3GS but one more thing which is worth to notice is the color. For the first time you will see iPhone in some vibrant colors which does make it beautiful. In this review we tell you whether its worth the money you invest in it.

Build Quality, Design and Form Factor

The build quality was the most doubtful thing about the device, before we had our hands on with the device, but once I got it, it felt a much better phone on the build quality department. On the other hand, this phone feels much better plastic and much premium unlike any other plastic phone we have seen earlier, even comparing with premium ones we have seen from samsung. The build is plastic but it wont get the scratches easily, however you can simply notice the fingerprints. The design is different as compared to any other iPhone you have seen earlier but rounded edges gives a much better grip in hands. The form factor is a good, however it feels slightly heavier at 132 grams but only when you compare with recent generation iPhones like iPhone 5 and 5S.

Camera Performance

IMG_0433

The rear camera remains the same 8 MP with auto focus and tap to focus and LED flash light to take better photos in daylight and we compared the camera on this device with iPhone 5 which has a similar camera but we noticed that the camera performance of this device was slightly better, however the difference was no that much. 1.2 MP front camera on the other hand is much better then the fixed focus camera as this one can record a video at 720p and also has face detection as well for good quality video chat. The photo samples taken from the rear camera are below.

Display, Memory and Battery Backup

It has a LED backlit IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1136 x 640 HD resolution with 326 PPI which is the same we have seen on iPhone 5 as well so there is no change in it, but the display on this device is still one of the best you can get with wide viewing angles and good color reproduction and saturation of colors. The in built memory of the device is 16GB or 32 GB, we reviewed the 16Gb version and it had 13.3 GB available to the user which seems sufficient but with prolonged usage you can run out of storage and for those who don’t know, it does gives you memory expansion for life.

Software and Gaming

The software UI running on this device might look different as it runs the latest version of iOS 7.0.4 available till date and you really don’t need to worry about the future updates as they come to device much faster than any other device. You can any game on this device without any issues, we played Frontline Commando D Day and other games like it does run smoothly as well.

Sound, Video and Navigation

The sound of device is loud enough and clear as well, it can play HD videos as well although the format of the videos which can be played are limited. You can use GPS navigation on this device without any problem as it does play that role pretty good as it did during our review, we used for navigation and it was very useful for this purpose. It also have compass sensor to provide you accurate navigation info you need.

What We Liked

  • Great Build
  • Nice Camera Quality
  • Great Form Factor

What We Did Not Liked

  • Slightly Heavy
  • Overpriced

Conclusion and Price

iPhone 5C is definitely much better than other plastic build quality phone as it has quite premium and very nice and strong feel unlike the clumsy plastic phones. However, it does not comes at an affordable price of Rs. 38500 INR (Starting Price for 16Gb Version) and to us it feels quite overpriced for the kind of build and hardware you get in this phone.
