Build Quality, Design and Form Factor

The build of the device is again is plastic but the overall finish and quality of plastic feels really good and nice to hold in hands. It has a glossy back cover which will get finger prints easily but resist to scratches to an extent. However we are not sure about the thickness and weight, it feels quite thin with curved back cover and light as well in terms of weight. The overall design of this phone not exceptional but looks much better then the old Titanium S5. It feels light enough to carry and slim enough to slide it inside a pocket which gives a nice form factor, however the handgrip is good but not great due to glossy finish on the back.

Camera Performance

The rear camera is 8 MP AF, can record HD video and it also has LED Flash for low light photos. The photos we took in day light looked great and low light photos were average in details and color reproduction. The front camera is 0.3 MP and don’t expect much from it, but still you can do a decent quality of video chat.

Display, Memory and Battery Backup

It has 5 inch IPS LCD capacitive touch screen with 540 x 960 qHD resolution which makes it average on the display level and colors are also not so good in rendering, but in all at this price its fine and decent display you can get. In built memory of the device is 4GB which looks like a disappointment as you get around 2.2 GB approx. available to the user, but it has support to change the default storage to SD card so that you can install apps on the SD card as well or store some data on it to decrease the load on limited phone storage. The battery on this device is 1800 mAh which is definitely not sufficient for this 5 inch display but with moderate usage and low multimedia and entertainment use you can get around 1 day of backup.

Software, Benchmarks and Gaming

The software UI is heavily customised, it runs android 4.2.2 but neither the Settings UI and nor the home screen are stock UI and the overall the phone user interface is responsive but not as fast as stock android. The benchmarks scores are mentioned below. It can handle casual games like Temple Run Oz, Temple Run 2 and Subway Surfer quite nicely and medium graphic games like Frontline commando can also be played nicely without graphic lag but heavy games like MC4 and Nova 3 may not get installed and if you can install them on SD card then they will not run smoothly on this device.

Benchmark Scores

  • Quadrant Standard Edition: 5756
  • Antutu Benchmark: 17193
  • Nenamark2: 61 fps
  • Multi Touch: 5 point

Sound, Video and Navigation

It has loud speaker at the rear side which will get blocked at times accidentally while watching a video, the loudness of speaker is good enough but again its not too loud in terms of volume. The video playback for HD videos is supported on the device, you can play 720p or 1080p videos without any audio or video sync issues, for unsupported video formats you can use third party apps like MX Player and BS Player. It can also be used for GPS Navigation however it does not have magnetic compass sensor, but GPS navigation on this device will still work with the help of assisted GPS. It will take around 5 minutes to lock the GPS coordinates provided you have checked the right options to make GPS work.

What We Liked

  • Nice Form Factor
  • Slim Profile
  • Light Weight

What We Did Not Like

  • Low power rating battery
  • Low resolution display

Conclusion and Price

Karbonn Titanium S5 Plus looks like decent value for money device considering its price of around Rs. 11,490 approx. It has pretty good hardware and build quality as per the price you pay for it, but some things which are not so good about this phone is the slightly lesser power rating on the battery and lower resolution display but both of these things does not make much of difference on overall day to day usage and performance of this phone.
