Moto X vs Nexus 4 Comparison Overview

Motorola Moto X, the second device from the stable of Motorola has just gone on sale in India for Rs 23,999. It will be going up against the Nexus 4 which is on sale currently for about Rs 23,000-24,000. The Nexus 4 has been going pretty strong till now but now Motorola will be trying to build upon the success of the Moto G. Let us see how the two devices  stack up against each other.

Display and Processor

Moto X as well as Nexus 4 come with a 4.7 inch display with a resolution of 1280 X 720 pixels. The Nexus 4 gets Corning Gorilla Glass 2 on top for protection whereas the Moto X comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 instead for added protection.

The Nexus 4 comes with a quad core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor that offers pretty much the best performance in the sub Rs 25,000 segment in the country. It gets coupled with a 2GB RAM to ensure that you can multitask with ease. Powering the Moto X is a 1.7 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 Pro which teams up with a 2GB RAM. The device has already shown its processing prowess and it does not make you feel as if it is a dual core device. Yes it comes at number 2 in this regard but otherwise is a capable unit.

Camera and Internal Storage

Moto X comes with a 10MP Clear Pixel camera unit at the rear and present alongside it is a 2MP front camera. Nexus 4 gets an 8MP snapper at the back and a 1.3MP camera up front and the Nexus 4  loses by a wide margin in the imaging department. The Moto X comes across as a way better device when it comes to the camera.

The Moto X as well as Nexus 4 come shod with 16GB of internal storage which can not be expanded. Both the devices lack a microSD card slot  so there are no favourites in this regard.

Battery and Operating System

The Nexus 4 comes with a 2,100 mAh battery which drains out at the speed of lightning under heavy usage. Moto X gets a 2,200 mAh battery which offers slightly more backup than the Nexus 4 (up to 13  hours of talk time against up to 11 hours of talktime). If we were to choose one out of the two based on the battery back up, our choice would be the Moto X.

Both the smartphones run on Android 4.4  KitKat but the Nexus 4 has a better Chance of getting an upgrade in future. Saying that, we are not denying the fact that Motorola might just give the Moto X an update in future but we won’t get our hopes too high. The Moto X gets a Touch less control and an Active screen which add to the functionality of the device and ease of operations.

Both the smartphones are pretty capable units and have their own set of pros and cons. If raw performance power is your thing and can compromise on the imaging unit and battery back up, the Nexus 4 is the device for you. Moto X gets a better camera, a slew of customisation options and a better battery back up. My personal choice will be the Nexus 4. What about you?
