Samsung Galaxy S5 VS Sony Xperia Z2 Comparison: Camera, Display, Processor, Battery and Features

It’s the time of the year when all the smartphone vendors are competing with each other in releasing their flagship models that were announced in the first quarter. While Samsung has let out officially that the Galaxy S5 will be available for sale starting from April 11 across the globe. But, the Samsung offering is not the only top-tier phone to hit the market in the coming weeks as Sony and HTC are also prepping to release their flagship phones soon. Talking of the Xperia Z2, the phone is said to be out sometime in April thereby declaring a direct rivalry with the Galaxy S5. Display and Processor

Both the Xperia Z2 and Galaxy S5 boast FHD 1080p displays, but the Samsung phone has a Super AMOLED screen measuring 5.1 inches translating to a pixel density of 432 pixels per inch, while the IPS LCD display panel on the Xperia Z2 measures 5.2 inches with 424 ppi pixel density.

But the major difference is that the Xperia Z2’s TRILUMINOS display with X-Reality Engine and the latest Live Color LED tech delivers vivid colors without over saturation as the Super AMOLED screen. Besides this, the Xperia Z2 has a scratch resistant and shatter proof display, while that of the Galaxy S5 is protected using Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Talking of the hardware specs, the Galaxy S5 is stuffed with an Exynos True Octa processor and Adreno 330 GPU, while the Xperia Z2 has the Snapdragon 801 chipset with 2.3 GHz quad-core Krait processor and Adreno 330 GPU. Though an octa-core processor is superior, it is not clear on what enhancements this true core processor would put forth on the table.


Camera and Internal Storage

In terms of camera aspects, the Galaxy S5 features a 16 MP rear camera sensor with autofocus, LED flash and HDR accompanied by a 2 MP front-facing camera unit. On the other hand, the Xperia Z2 packs an impressive 20.7 MP rear snapper with HDR and LED flash coupled with a 2.2 MP front-facer. It has to be mentioned that, Samsung has come out with a bold decision in the camera segment and has incorporated the new ISOCELL camera in the Galaxy S5. This technology uses six elements that get along with each other and operate along with the camera app assuring less crosstalk between the pixels and adding prominent changes to BSI. This way, the Galaxy S5 will be capable of delivering sharper snaps with accurate and brighter colors.

On the storage front, the Galaxy S5 arrives in two options – 16 GB and 32 GB, while the Xperia Z2 boasts 16 GB of onboard storage. Nevertheless to say, both the phones feature expandable micro SD card slots for expandable memory support up to 128 GB in both. Sony has added the extra chunk of RAM in its phone by giving it 3 GB of RAM, while the Galaxy S5 has gone back to 2 GB.

Battery and Features

The Galaxy S5 is given a 2,800 mAh battery with Ultra Battery Saving Mode and other software additions paving way for enhanced power managed even during intense tasks such as GPS, playing games and browsing the web. On the other hand, the Xperia Z2 includes a 3,200 mAh battery with that is said to be better than the battery in its opponent.

Both the phones are flavored with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system and have connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, NFC, LTE and micro USB with USB OTG. But, that’s not all as both the handsets have some unique features in them to distinguish themselves.

Well, the Galaxy S5 has a fingerprint scanner in the home button along with a heart rate sensor near the camera’s LED flash. In comparison, Sony has included stereo speakers and amplifier set termed S-Force Front Surround Sound in the Xperia Z2. This technology teams up with the noise cancellation headset to deliver superior audio quality without any noise. Also, the Galaxy S5 comes with an IP67 certification allowing the handset to withstand under 1 meter water for 30 minutes, while the Xperia Z2 has the IP68 certification that makes the phone capable of surviving under 1.5 meters of water for an hour.
