Is Buying Moto G From Reliance a Good Deal ?

Reliance has come up with an EMI Plan for Moto G (Full Review) and will be the second retailer of Moto G in India , besides official retailer Flipkart. Reliance launched a similar EMI offer for iPhone 5s and 5c last year, but that made a lot more sense because of the high end price. Freedom from mobile bill is lucrative offer, but here are a few things you should know before you proceed.

With the new offer, you will get unlimited 3G Data, free national roaming, unlimited free local and STD calls and 3000 sms per month and will have to pay only pre defined monthly installments of Rs. 2,334 per month (Total 14,004) for 6 months and Rs 1,205 per month for 12 months (Total 14,460). You will only have to pay for ISD calls and international roaming. Reliance has not put any cap on 3G data usage and speed as well.

The transactions will be valid only from ICICI Credit card and you can expect your bank to charge some cash handling charges which will add another few hundreds to the value. If you don’t opt for the reliance plans, you can get Moto G CDMA for Rs. 13,499 , which isn’t a good deal as you lose on bill subsidy benefit and can get 16 GB variant for only 500 INR extra.

The problem is that Reliance is only offering 8 GB variant which means you get only about 5.5 GB internal storage without possibility of microSD expansion and all that for the price of 16 GB variant, which is selling on Flipkart for Rs. 13,999.

Another major issue is that Reliance is importing these units from other countries and this means, Motorola won’t acknowledge warranty for these phones. Reliance will offer its own one year warranty, but we don’t know if that would be as efficient with all spares readily available.

Several software issues have surfaced with Moto G worldwide and Motorola has acknowledged the issue and is working on a firmware update. Since Moto G has been imported from other countries, we are not sure if firmware updates will be available on time.

Reliance has only won 3G spectrum in 13 circles and you must check the 3G availability and performance in your area before you go ahead with the plan. Overall, Reliance Moto G CDMA offer has more uncertainties than assurances. Having said that, if you are satisfied with Reliance CDMA services in your area, you can save significant money with the EMI Plan as you wont have to pay any mobile usage tariffs if your monthly bill is above 1,000 INR per month and you are a reliance user, just go ahead and buy. You can checkout this offer from Reliance store page.
