AMD reveals new AMD Sempron and AMD Athlon APUs with AM1 Platform

The American multinational semiconductors company AMD announced India availability of its new AM1 platform products featuring quad-core and dual-core variants of the AMD APU. The AM1 platform will be available under two brands, namely the AMD Athlon and the AMD Sempron.

AMD Athelon 5150/5350 and AMD Sempron 3850 APU’s will deliver a quad-core solution solution to users with AMD Sempron 2650 built on a dual-core architecture. Two SATA 6 Gbps ports, two USB 3.0 ports, PCl2 2.0 lanes for graphic card upgrades, and a trio of video outputs (DisplayPort, HDMI and VGA) will be present with the architecture.

The Press event for the products had Mr. Chris Hook, Director – Public Relations, for AMD emphasizing the importance of concentrating development efforts on the current trends of content changing to the visual digital form. Also attending were Mr.Gabe Gravning, Director of Marketing, AMD and Ms.Raka Khashu Razdan, Head of Marketing, AMD India.

The AMD APUs include the processor and GPU on the same unit and these new AM1 APUs have been launched with the promise of better stability in Video technology, better buffer effects and better JPEG decoding. These chipsets are socketed and thus will provide better flexibility to the users . AMD has targeted the price conscious users with these devices being launched with the price tags in the range of Rs.2299-Rs.3999.

2013 has been a good year for the company, with high end gaming consoles such as the PS4, XBOX One and Apple’s updated Mac Pro bearing AMD chipsets. With competitive pricing and the flexibility to be upgraded, an attribute missing in most APUs from other manufacturers  placed in the same price range, AMD expects the AM1 platform to be another winner for the company.

AMD also announced the official launch of its new AMD partner program aimed at strengthening and rewarding its global channel partners in India. Mr.Chanrdahas Panigrahi, Director – Consumer and Mobility, AMD India, highlighted AMD’s strategy to lay the foundation of this program on three cornerstones – to Aspire, Motivate and Design. The program promises to offer AMD’s partners a broad range of attributes including financial, access, marketing, recognition, technical and material benefits.

The program recognizes distributors, system builders, retailers and e-tailers as Elite, Premier, Provisional Premier and Select partners, based on criterias outlined within the program. A registered partner would be provided with access to a secure AMD partner portal which will offer them various useful tools and resources to help grow their AMD business.
