Going by the trend wherein smartphone manufacturers are releasing their standalone apps on Google Play Store, Sony has made an interesting move. The Japanese tech firm has rolled out its keyboard app on the Google’s app store for users to download and use the same on their devices. Lately, the MountainValley based search engine giant has also made a similar move by launching its Camera app on the Play Store.
Though users owning devices made by any brand can download this Sony Xperia keyboard app, the app is compatible only for the Android 4.4 KitKat based devices for now, claims XperiaBlog.
As of now, Sony Mobiles has released the v6.4.A.0.6 of Xperia Keyboard on Google Play, while an older version v6.3.A.0.18 is available on the Xperia devices that run on Android KitKat. With the latest version of the keyboard app available on the Play Store, Sony need not roll out any OTA update every time and users can simply update it from the app store itself.
Prior to Sony, Motorola had rolled out its apps including Gallery, Camera and Boot Services on the Google Play Store and it also seems to update them periodically.
As per Sony, the official Xperia Keyboard app with the latest update will enable users to backup and sync the keyboard using Sony Entertainment Network account in order to make sure that the users get a similar keyboard experience across all Xperia devices even in future. Also, there is an improved layout for the Thai language.
