Moto E VS Micromax Canvas Doodle 3 Comparison Overview

In the last six months, Motorola has come up with a couple of excellent devices, namely the Moto G for the mid-range market and the Moto X for those who can spend somewhat more. Now, with the launch of the new Moto E, they are offering the entry-level consumer a delightful option at a very competitive price of Rs.6999.

On the other hand, Micromax, India’s number 2 smartphone manufacturer, has been pushing in a number of products of all price range and has recently launched the new Micromax Canvas Doodle 3 Phablet aimed at the price-conscious consumer. Let us have a look at the related specifications of both of these devices and compare them to each other.

Display and Processor

The Moto E comes with a 4.3 inch IPS LCD display with a qHD resolution of 960X540 pixels.  Given the price tag along with which the device has been launched, the resulting pixel density of 256 ppi is excellent and will provide the user with a crisp and clear display. On the other hand, the 6-inch Doodle 3 features a resolution of 854X480 pixels, giving it a resolution of a mere 163 ppi. This results in a soft display, with apparent pixelation, which would be nowhere near Moto E’s bright display.

The Moto E comes with a 1.2 GHz dual core Snapdragon 200 chipset with an Adreno 302 GPU. Moto E also comes with 1 GB RAM which will help it in providing a smoother experience to users. In comparison, the Doodle 3 comes with a dual core MT6572 processor clocked at 1.3 GHz and paired with a Mali 400 GPU. The disappointing factor with the device is the presence of a mere 512 GB RAM, which implies that Moto E will fare better in day-to-day use.

Camera and Internal Storage

Motorola has tried to cut costs with the exclusion of a front camera in the Moto E. For those who regularly use video conferencing apps like Skype or take a lot of selfies, this would be a disappointment. The front camera is a 5 MP camera just like Moto G and we can expect the same picture quality from the lens. Also noticeably absent from the hardware specs sheet is a LED flash, which means that users will find it difficult to capture images with the device in low-light or dark surroundings.

The Canvas Doodle 3 comes with a 5 MP rear snapper along with a VGA front camera. While the VGA camera won’t provide users with excellent pictures, it is still better than nothing and thus in this department the Micromax Canvas Doodle 3 scores one over the Moto E.

Both devices have 4 GB internal storage, which might seem low to prospective buyers. To overcome this limitations, both devices offer a microSD card slot on the device body, which allow users to use expandable memory of up to 32 GB.

Battery and Features

The battery which come comes with the Moto E is a 1980 mAh Lithium-ion unit. Motorola has promised that the device will be good for 24 hours of normal day-to-day usage. In comparison, the Canvas Doodle 3 comes with a juicy 2500 mAh battery. Micromax claims 260 hours of standby time and 9 hours of talk time from this device. However, the huge 6-inch screen of the Doodle 3 is sure to take a toll on the battery, especially when playing multimedia or games.

The new Motorola Moto E has been launched with Android 4.4 KitKat and users can expect regular Android updates from Motorola. More software features of the device includes all the necessary connectivity aspects such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G etc. and dual SIM functionality.

The Micromax Canvas Doodle 3 comes on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and much like other Canvas series devices, bears dual SIM functionality. Micromax also offers free BigFlix usage for 6 months and a magnetic flip cover along with the device.

Price and Conclusion

Moto E has been launched at a very competitive price of Rs.6999. With a better display and greater RAM, which will in turn help it to provide a better experience to users, Moto E could be the preferred device when compared with the Micromax Canvas Doodle 3 which is priced at Rs.8500. Nonetheless, those users who are looking for a bigger screen size or a very economically priced Phablet device can go for the Doodle 3 as the Moto E offers a smaller, 4.3 inch display.
