We have been receiving several queries regarding the release date of HTC Desire 816 and the smartphone has finally arrived. HTC Desire 816 has managed to get so much attention because it’s one of the rare few large display Android phablets from Tier 1 manufacturers being sold in 20,000 to 25,000 INR price range.

HTC Desire 816 features 5.5 Inch Super LCD 2 display with 720p HD resolution amounting to 267 pixels per inches. In our initial time with the device, the display was bright with good colors and viewing angles.

The processor employed is Qualcomm MSM8928 Snapdragon 400 with 4 Cortex A7 based cores clocked at 1.6 GHz. The RAM capacity is 1.5 GB and Internal storage is 8 GB, with option for expandable storage up to 128 GB using MicroSD support.

Imaging hardware includes a 13 MP front camera capable of full HD video recording and a 5 MP front camera also capable of full HD 1080p Video recording. Software is latest Android 4.4.2 Kitkat with HTC Sense 6 UI on top. HTC also claims decent 737 hours of 3G standby time from its 2600 mAh battery. Other features include dual frontal speakers, HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, aGPS and GLONASS.

The HTC desire 816 is retailing for 24,450 INR on Infibeam which is more than the launch price. If you wait for another week you can save a couple of thousand bucks. The phone will primarily compete against Sony’s mid range phablet, Xperia T2 Ultra.
