The HTC One M8 has been in the market for a few months, but it has managed to beat off its tough challengers including Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2 in many aspects. With the arrival of LG’s flagship smartphone – LG G3 another big challenge is open for the HTC smartphone. Even last year, it was the LG G2 that had threatened the HTC One and now the latest offering from the South Korea firm boasts highlights such as 2K resolution screen, laser auto focus. Here is a spec comparison between the LG G3 and the HTC One M8 smartphones.
Display and Processor
LG G3 boasts a stunning display measuring 5.5 inches carrying a 2K Quad HD resolution of 2560×1440 pixels that in turn results in an unseen 538 ppi pixel density. The Quad HD display panel is said sets an all new viewing standard as it produces images that are very clear and sharp than the other normal smartphone displays. However, there is no clear confirmation on the presence of Corning Gorilla Glass protection on this display.
The HTC One M8, on the other hand is fitted with a 5 inch Super LCD3 display that packs a FHD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels translating to a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch. The display is protected with the help of a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating on top. However, the LG G3 display is superior as it comes with 2K resolution that is two times higher than the FHD display on the HTC offering.
When it comes to the raw hardware segment, both the smartphones are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipsets that can be clocked up to 2.5 GHz making them similar. The difference is that the LG G3 comes in two variants – 2 GB and 3 GB of RAM while the HTC One M8 features only 2 GB of RAM to take charge of its multi-tasking department.
Camera and Internal Storage
Imaging appears to be one of the strongest departments of the HTC One M8 as it features a Duo Camera arrangement at its back for the very first time in the smartphone industry. There are two units at the back – 4.1 UltraPixel that helps in capturing an image and 2 MP sensor that helps in refocusing it to provide clear images. This camera is coupled with a 5 MP front-facing snapper that can make impressive video calls.
On the other hand, LG G3 boasts of a13 MP primary shooter that is teamed up with such as OIS+ (Optical Image Stabilizer Plus) and the innovative Laser Auto Focus. The snapper is said capture sharp images within a faster time span as compared to the time taken by the smartphone cameras. Also, Laser Auto Focus is a first of its kind in the smartphone domain and it lets the handset to capture best moments even at low light environments with the help of a laser beam that measures the distance between the camera and subject.
Also onboard is a 2.1 MP front camera with large sensor and aperture along with other notable improvements for better quality and special software feature – Simply Captivating.
On the storage front, both the smartphones are similar with two options – 16 GB and 32 GB of internal storage space that can be expanded up to 128 GB with the help a micro SD card leaving us with no complaints in this regard.
Battery and Operating System
The LG G3 gets a 3,000 mAh battery unit along with optimization technologies and uses graphite replacing metal in the cathode to take full advantage of the battery efficiency. On the other hand, the HTC offering is included with a 2,600 mAh battery that can also deliver decent backup. While LG G3 has a bigger battery, it has to power a bigger display with twice the amount of pixels. We expect the backup to be similar for both. LG G3 has the advantage of removable battery which also supports wireless charging.
Both the smartphones run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat and the user experience depends on their corresponding UI. The LG G3 uses a redesigned graphical user interface that has flatter graphics and minimalist user experience. On the other hand, the HTC phone runs on the Sense 6.0 UI with Motion Launch controls, BoomSound and Sense TV.
