History repeats itself yet again, and owners of Nokia X Series are in for a bad news. Nokia X, Nokia X+ and Nokia XL, won’t be updated to X Software Platform 2.0, which was introduced yesterday with the new Nokia X2 yesterday.
The same thing happened when Windows Phone 7 transitioned to Windows Phone 8 and this time too, the reason cited remains the same. According to Microsoft, the update won’t be provided due to lack of hardware support.
“Because of the necessary hardware upgrades, the Nokia X software platform 2.0 won’t be available on Nokia X, Nokia X+ or Nokia XL. However, more updates will be coming to further improve the experience of those devices in the coming months,” says Yannis Paniaras, Head of the Mobile Phones UX Design Studio at Microsoft in Beijing.
If you are an early adopter for Microsoft’s Android mix, here is what you will be missing. The new Nokia X software platform 2.0 is based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, unlike the previous version which was based on base version of Android 4.1 jelly bean. The number of tile columns on home screen has been increased to 4 from 3. The tiles and Fastlane panes are also joined by App list. There are other improvements to Fastlane, Keyboard and Camera UI as well.
As stated above by Yannis Paniaras, Microsoft will roll an update for X series as well to provide the new UI changes to Nokia X users, but the initial X series users can abandon the hopes for a future KitKat update. We expect most new changes will be included in the update for initial X series users. This is disheartening because the X+ and XL are less than one month old
The Nokia X2, comes with 1 GB RAM, Cortex A7 chipset, improved Camera as compared to Nokia X. You can hop to our comparison article for detailed comparison.
