Flipkart has launched its first tablet, Digiflip Pro XT 712, in India for 9,999 INR in India. More interesting than the tablet is the fact that Flipkart has unloaded full arsenal of its services as part of introductory offer which further reduces the effective cost by a great margin. Before we ponder on merits of Digiflip pro, take a look at Flipkart offers.

Design, Form Factor and Display

The Tablet has above average build quality. It’s not metal, but it’s good quality plastic. It felt slightly heavy in hand compared to other 7 inch tablets. The insignia on the rear plays a spoiler on the glossy back cover, but with several color book cases that flipkart is offering, Build quality won’t be a major issue. The display, however might be.

The 7 inch display is an IPS LCD panel but the viewing angles are not good. The color reproduction isn’t perfect either. The display was quite reflective and it wouldn’t be easy to read on it outdoors. So, if you like to read ebooks and are excited about 2300 INR worth of free books Flipkart is offering, you might want to reconsider.

Processor and RAM

Processor employed is 1.3 GHz quad core chipset MTK8382, with Cortex A9 cores, and has been designed for entry level tablets. The chipset is aided with Mali 400 Mp2 GPU clocked at 500 MHz and is expected to be an average performer.

The RAM capacity is 1 GB and this is the most you can expect in this price range. In our initial time with the device there was no UI lag, but we don’t expect the same to be true with extended usage.

Camera and Internal Storage

The 7 inch Tablet form factor is generally not used for photography, but Flipkart has provided with a good 5 MP autofocus camera at the rear capable of recording HD videos and supported with LED flash. The camera quality was quite decent in our initial testing.

Internal storage is 16 GB and can be further expanded using a MicroSD card slot. The internal storage leaves nothing to complain about and will suffice for most users. You get what you pay for.

User Interface and Battery

IMG-20140626-WA0008

The user interface is stock Android 4.4.2 Jelly bean which is slightly dated as of now. Google has already introduced Android L to the world which makes jelly bean a dated andorid version, battery capacity is 3000 mAh and according to flipkart, this dual SIM tablet will last for about 8 hours of talk time and a week of standby time. We would like to test these claims before accepting them. The battery back up sounds decent enough for a budget tablet on paper.

Conclusion

Flipkart Digiflip Pro XT 712 comes with standard hardware and a not so good display. The introductory offers however are meaningful and will reduce the effective cost to 5K for most people and for this price the tablet is a pretty good deal. If you are planning to buy this one, you can always make use of 30 day try and buy offer. Just try it for a couple of weeks to judge if it will suffice for your usage.

  1. You guys are always ahead of hunting the new launches!!! You rock!!! Keep up the good work. Your hands on review is nothing less than full review! It’s awesome! Pleased by your effort…

  2. Thanks for Review. I have just placed order and then I got to read this review. Anyway as you said effective 5K price and free e-books and 30 days trial is supportive to reconsider.

  3. PLEASE DON’T GO FOR IT. If ur budget is below 10K, wait till you save enough money to buy a premium one like Nexus 7, but don’t buy this crap product. Its complete waste of your hard earned money (Rs. 10K) .
One of the main usage of any tablet would be watching videos and movies, and this one fails dismally and falls flat on its face in this category. Video playing is not at all smooth. It runs as if the video is playing in slow motion. There is a lot of lag.Another big disappointment is the camera, one will look like a ghost in a skype call. It proves one thing , number of pixels has nothing to do with the picture quality. I have seen decent quality pics from other devices with same 5 MP and 2 MP cameras. This is my honest observation in first 2 hours of my usage of this device. Flipkart ! pls stop selling such crap products and loot public money.Thank God that I didn’t order bluetooth headset from Digiflip. I completely lost faith in both Flipkart and Digiflip. Mainly flipkart for endorsing such low quality tablet.

  4. Don’t buy Digiflip Tablet since no service is being provided by Flipkart. They have not uploaded the service centres in their website. To know a service centre by writing to them it takes a week and if we go there they tell us no service. Again to get a service centre name it takes again a week. A product without service centre is a waste. We are going through the pain of purchasing the Digiflip tablet.
