One of the popular online retailers, Snapdeal has introduced its own smartphone named Alpha Feather that is priced at Rs 12,999. The handset is exclusively available via Snapdeal itself and it comes with a wide range of freebies including free data pack, a screen guard, a hard back case, a flip case and 8 GB of memory card. The device appears to have an impressive spec sheet and here is a quick review of the handset for those who are interested in considering it for a purchase.
Camera and Storage
The rear snapper given to the Alpha Feather is a 13 MP primary camera that features HD 720p video recording capability. This primary camera at the back is paired with a front-facing 8 MP shooter that is pretty much capable for an impressive video calling quality and for capturing great looking selfies. Though the camera resolution is pretty decent, the lack of LED flash is a notable downside as it is needed to achieve great low-light performance.
Internal storage is standard at 4 GB, but this can be expanded externally by another 32 GB using the micro SD card slot available on the handset for additional storage support. Of course the 4 GB haters will not like the handset at the first look, but the 32 GB of expandable storage support is definitely a relief.
Processor and Battery
The processor used in the device is a 1.3 GHz quad-core one, but the chipset used remains unknown. This processor is supplemented with a large 2 GB of RAM that can handle the multi-tasking department efficiently. While the capability of the chipset is not known, this RAM is definitely capable of delivering an amazing user experience.
Battery capacity used is 2,500 mAh and Snapdeal has revealed that the battery can pump in a decent backup of 14 to 17 hours of talk time to the device. For the price bracket, this amount of battery life is pretty much acceptable.
Display and Other Features
The display of Alpha Feather is 5 inches in size and it bears a FHD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. This totals to a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch that is good enough for its pricing. For a better display experience with good viewing angles and superior color contrast and reproduction, the handset uses an IPS panel. There are hardly a few FHD offerings in the budget price range and hence, this device fares well in this segment.
The software is Android 4.4 KitKat, but there is no word regarding the support for any future updates. The dual SIM smartphone arrives with standard connectivity features such as 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS like the other handsets. It arrives in a slew of vibrant color options such as Black, White, Pink and Yellow making it colorful.
Comparison
The Alpha Feather smartphone will compete with the devices such as Lava Iris X1, Xolo Q1011, Moto G, Karbonn Titanium Hexa and others.

Price and Conclusion
Alpha Feather priced at Rs 12,999 is priced slightly higher compared to some of its rivals, but it should not be a great issue considering the FHD display. The phone excels in almost all the segments of hardware and hence it will provide a great value for the money paid. The handset will deliver a decent user experience and will be a great offering in the mid-range market segment. However, for the pricing it would have been better if the vendor included the LED flash and at least 8 GB storage capacity onboard.
