Asus today introduced a Moto E competitor in the budget price range, dubbed as Asus Zenfone  4, which comes with some admirable hardware and a global brand value. The Asus Fonepad 4 will be soon joined in by its 4.5 inch sibling Fonepad 4.5 to further heighten the competition. Let’s take a look at the specifications of Zenfone 4.

Camera and Internal Storage

Imaging hardware is fairly basic with a 5 MP rear shooter and a VGA front camera for video calling. There is no LED flash for low light photography and in our initial time with the device, both the front and rear camera gave an average performance, nothing special here.

The internal storage however is impressive at 8 GB. Most manufacturers are still sticking to the trend of 4 GB internal memory out of which only 2 GB is available to users for Apps and data. The storage is further expandable by up to 64 GB and this is enough to keep everybody happy.

Processor and Battery

The processor used is 1.2 GHz Intel Atom Z2520 dual core which is on the lowest rung of Z25XX lader. By including 1 GB RAM, and PowerVR SGX 544 MP2 GPU clocked at 300 MHz, which is better than Adreno 302 (Snapdragon 200), Z2520 SoC assures a decent performance in this price range.

Battery capacity is 1600 mAh, which sounds average and if the claimed talk time of around 10 hours and standby time of 192 hours holds true, there wouldn’t be much reason to complain in this price range.

Display and Other features

The display is 4 inches in size with WVGA 800 x 480 pixels spread across it. It’s not the best display that we have seen on budget Android devices, but is usable. Color reproduction and brightness are also fine. Moto E display with qHD resolution was more responsive and sharp.

Software uses is neat Zen UI on top of Android 4.3 Jelly bean with chances of future kitkat update. Zenfone 4 also supports Dual SIM functionality, which is an much demanded trait in Indian market.

Comparison

Asus Zenfone 4 will compete with devices like Moto E, Micromax Unite 2, Xolo Q600s, Lava Iris X1 and upcoming Nokia X2 in Indian market.
