Xolo has already launched Xolo A500s Lite and Q500s in the same price bracket and now it’s not offering anything different with Xolo A550s IPS, priced at 5,799 INR, except for an assurance of Android 4.4 Kitkat update.
The display is same 4 inches in size with WVGA resolution. Since it’s and IPS LCD display panel, you can expect good viewing angles and optimum brightness. Out of the box it will run on Android 4.2 Jelly bean, but Xolo guarantees Android KitKat update as well. Will it be updated to Android KitKat based Xolo Hive UI? It’s too soon to say.
In an era of cheap Quad cores or Dual cores with 1 GB RAM, Xolo is still sticking to 1 GHz Dual core MT6572M with only 512 MB RAM. Storage isn’t thrilling either, with trite 4 GB onboard and options for further expanding it by another 32 GB using MicroSD card support as always.
The humble chipset can play 720p videos, which you can also record from the 5 MP rear AF camera, with LED flash support. The front VGA camera can be used for basic video calling.
The battery capacity is 1400 mAh which will last for 570 hours of standby time, 8 hours of talk time, and 4hours of web browsing time according to Xolo. Other features include 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 and AGPS.
Xolo A550s IPS is meant for first time android users and if you are looking for anything more, the hardware might leave you disappointed. As unexciting A550s might be, we are eager to see Xolo unveil its next flagship octa core smartphone with its Custom HIVI UI on 6th August 2014.
