Under Google Android One program, Google and desi smartphone manufacturers will work in close coordination to provide a $100 smartphone with Google taking full control of software and software updates. This is the first time entry level androids are being promised timely Android updates and there is no reason why this couldn’t be revolutionary.

Micromax Scheduled an independent event this Monday and all facebook teasers and Invite itself pointed to Android one launch, however the event was canceled at the last minute.

Google plans to spend an insane amount of money for the promotion of Android One program in India. Since the market is becoming budget oriented, this is a really wise move from Google. Microsoft tried to do something similar with Qualcomm Reference Design program, but no aspersions can be cast over Android popularity in emerging markets.

Xiaomi Redmi 1S might find some worthy competitors in these new smartphones, however it is not very likely that all these devices will cost as low as 5,999 INR.
