Build Quality, Design and Form Factor

Build quality is good on the new Micromax Canvas Nitro and its feels pretty good in hands as well with rubberized matte finish leather like back cover, which also provides a great grip when you hold the device in your hands. Design wise its not revolutionary but looks slightly better from some of the other phones in competition. It does not weigh much but slightly heavy but on the other side feels real solid as well. Rounded edges on the back cover makes it much easier to hold in hands.

Camera Performance

The rear 13 MP camera can take real good shots in daylight and artificial light and low light performance was also quite decent. The rear camera can record HD videos at 720p and 1080p as well and you also have support to do refocus after taking photos on this device. The front 5 MP camera is quite good for taking selfie and good quality of the video chat.

Display, Memory and Battery Backup

It has IPS LCD display at 720 x 1280 resolution on 5 Inch display which gives great viewing angles and good sunlight visibility. It has 8GB in built memory out which around 5.68 GB is available to the user which gives you enough storage for the apps and games. However you cannot install apps on the SD card without rooting the phone but app data of the apps can be moved from phone storage to sd card. You can get around 1 day of battery backup with moderate usage but on continuous use you will get around 3-4 hours of usage. Available amount of RAM is around 864 MB with idle situation but if you run some more apps then also apps can run with sufficient amount of RAM available.

Software, Benchmarks and Gaming

The software UI which runs on top of android is custom google now launcher which gives me much more options in customization and it also make the phone responsive and faster in terms of usage. We played Blood and Glory, Front Line Commando D Day and these games played fine without any audio or video lag while playing these games and Dead Trigger 2 also did not gave any lag while playing.

Benchmark Scores

  • Antutu Benchmark: 19655
  • Nenamark2:  60.4 fps
  • Multi Touch:  5 point

Sound, Video and Navigation

Loudspeaker on this device is fairly loud but its placed the bottom back due to which it can get muffled and partially blocked when you place the phone on its back on a table or flat surface while watching a video. You can play HD video on this device both at 720p and 1080p. GPS navigation works fine and it locked the coordinates pretty quickly in outdoors and in indoors it may take some time or sometimes it may not lock.

  • Slightly Heavy

Conclusion and Price

Micromax Canvas Nitro is available at an affordable price tag of Rs. 12,990 and its available only on snapdeal. We liked almost most of the things on this phone which includes camera, built quality and software as well. It performs pretty good in day to day usage but felt slightly heavy but you wont notice the weight once you start using this device and this happened with us.

  1. “However you cannot install apps on the SD card without rooting the phone.”

what does it mean if default write disk option is there in storage section to change ????

    • it means if you check the option, Apps data will transfer to SD card, but apps will keep installing on internal storage. You can’t move them either

  2. why have they called it micromax nitro hy not nitro micromax? and can it also cook noodles and wash utensils (max. 2 cups and 3 plates) for me like upcoming iphone 6?

  3. I dont know about micro sim. If i have regular/ normal sim card, that i m using since last 6-7 yrs, can i use it in this micro sim slot???

  4. The price looks attractive. But before buying I need the following information: (1) Will Reliance CDMA work in this? (2) Does it have Tethering feature (using Mobile as Modem for connecting Laptop to Internet)? (3) Does it have ‘Hotspot’ feature? (4) How many addresses can be stored in Address Book? (5) How many SMS can be stored? (6) Will 3G work in GSM? Wrote to Snapdeal and also to Micromax on this and I’m yet to receive a reply. I’m unable to understand why Micromax is not giving the complete specifications? This is true with the other Mobile Phone manufacturers. All these manufacturers interested only in selling and not in giving clarity before selling their product.

    • haven’t tested it for Reliance CDMA. 3G GSM will work, tethering and hot spot is there. Since its android you don’t have to worry about SMS and Contacts, there is ample memory for that.

      • Thank you Deepak. At present I have a Reliance CDMA connection. I have also written to Micromax and Snapdeal, asking whether my existing connection will work in this instrument. So far no reply.

  5. Hi deepak ,I planned to purchase micromax nitro i have read in NDTV review the rear camera quality is poor and out of 2GB ram only 700MB ram available for user also the flash for camera is very poor and image quality in dark and low light is very poor

    3.Is call recording feature available.?

4.How much RAM avaible for user.?

5.Reae camera quality and flash quality.?

    6.The phome thickness…?

7.Pepole are talking about this phone not support OTG..? What is OTG ..? hou the OTG worked..?

and your final suggestion should I go with micromax canvas nitro or better to go with xiaomi M13.

Please answered me pointwise as i ask question in same sequence its help me to select the better phone as i cant be purchase phone frequently.

    • we got about 1 GB free RAM on first boot and that’s not bad Even 700 MB is quite decent. Camera quality isn’t poor in this price range, but could have been better.

      • Hi Deepak Thanks for your reply . can you please reply on my all concern mention above I need your suggestion too . is so kind of you please reply in detail .

  6. Hi, I am looking for a phone with good battery backup, 2GB RAM and with memory card slot. I am confused to make a decision. Micromax Canvas Nitro A310 OR Xolo 8x-1100??? I will be using phone with 2 SIM cards (avg 20 to 30 calls per day with total 1 to 1.5 hours of talking), using whatsapp, checking my office mails using mail client and listening music (approximately 1 to 2 hours) and I rarely play games & rarely watch movies on mobiles. These are usage details. I prefer a screen size not more than 5 inch.Plz confirm whether 2100mAz Li-Po Battery gives on full day backup when I use Xolo as mentioned above?

    • haven’t tested Xolo 8X1100 yet, but we will be testing it soon. Micromax Canvas Nitro gives decent back up and you can go for it in 10- 15k price range.

      • Hi Deepak,

        Thank you so much replying.

I don’t understand the difference between Li-Po and Li-Ion batteries. 2100mAh Li-Po Vs 2500mAh Li-Ion battery, which one gives better battery backup? If I purchase Xolo Play 8x – 1100, in future is that possible to buy and replace 2100mAh battery with a higher capacity battery ?(ex.3500mAh or 3000mAH)

      • Going for XOLO Play 8X-1100 is better! I tried both phones and found that in terms of performance both are same, but in terms of battery, camera, speaker (the most important) and temperature 8X-1100 is better. I found that Nitro get heated up too quickly, while 8X-1100 didn’t heated up (at least for me).

Also, some reasons to go for 8X-1100:

        # Gyroscope
        # Hall Sensor
        # Better Camera (I know both have same, but it takes much better pictures)
        # Speaker (this has amazed me on 8X-1100, in compare to Nitro)
        # Light Weight

I can’t confirm but, one of my friend (who work for XOLO) told me that HIVE UI will soon come to 8X-1100 and 8X-1200!

  7. Hi Deepak have you tested Karbonn octane plus. Looking good in decent price 11500. which one which one you suggest canvas nitro vs karbonn octane plus Please reply
